Nefarious activity in the hinterland..

I was speaking with my fishin guide friend last night... Rhett is the only guy on the river who will haul freight for the homesteaders.... So he is our summer lifeline...
It appears that a problem black bear has broken into two cabins in the vicinity of my place.. From what I hear it caused quite a mess... It even returned to one of the cabins during the cleanup process... It was fired at, but apparently missed...
The brush and under growth up there is extreme, and visibility is pretty nil, unless it is right in the yard...
And of course the shooter, wasn't me... which also explains a bit!!
I am not sure why my place wasn't checked on.... I guess I'm not in the loop anymore.....
Fortunately my best mountain man buddy is up at his cabin. I called him and we, once again swapped favors, and he is going to ride over and update me...
If there has been any nefarious activity, it appears I'll be taking thumper, and Mathilda up to try and whack my first 4th of july bear.....
Once those suckers learn that cabins can produce food, they just keep comin back... I was guarding Jesse's place a few years ago... the problem bear tried to get in.. It ran into the ferns before I could raise my rifle... but it came back 20 minutes later... (see the story on my blog.. the break in bear)....

It js going to be more patrolling with intent to kill, than actual hunting. I'll have hope my dogs tree it, if we come across one... then there is the issue that it may not be the right bear!

I heard from Jeff.... he said my place was fine... no sign of bear in the yard.. which is weird. They usualy leave a calling card for me.
I'm going to head up in a few days. I will take a few jugs of ammonia with and hang them up in tantalizing places..... let it get a good mouthful......

I put ammonia in small plastic jugs, and hang them by string in area's in my yard that tbe bears will have to pass by... I also scatter them around the yard near the cabin...
All they have to do is bite into the bottle....
That should discouage them from coming around.....
