Hey guys, just purchased my very first pistol, the sr9c. Alot of you helped in that decision and would like to say thanks. I had a question, I'm still waiting the 10 day waiting period ( I'm from Ca.) and I noticed on the side of the pistol where the serrations are on the rear that there's a small chip showing the metal. Since it's a brand new pistol I would like it in perfect condition and would like to beat on it myself. Should I tell the store where I got it, or ask Ruger about it. Sorry if it's a dumb question but when I pay for something new I'd like it in that condition and I understand that wear and tear is natural, but should the finish on the all black model be that easy to scratch? Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

The best way is to tell the store to exchange for another SR9c since you just purchased the pistol. You can contact Ruger CS and they will certainly make it right for you but you will need to ship it to Ruger, which will take at least a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the advice. The place I got it from didn't have anymore and I really dont wanna wait even longer. I just hope they won't have to do all the paperwork over and make me wait even longer. I'll contact them tomorrow.

I 'm there with you on wanting a new pistol to be perfect.

I would first go back to the dealer to see what he can do. If they can't or won't solve the problem, call Ruger,I'm sure they will make it right.

I own an early black stainless SR9 that has chipping on the slide where the barrel comes through, and where the loaded chamber indicator is. I don't sweat the imperfections on this gun,as I bought it used. What matters to me is that the gun functions perfectly and is 100% reliable and very accurate.I also own an M & P 9c with the black stainess finish with over 1000 rounds that I have beat on constantly and its finish is still perfect. But the 9c is about $100 more expensive and probably has a better coating.

After the problem is solved, enjoy your new gun.I hope you like it as much as I like my SR9 !

I hear you. I just love the way it feels when I hold it. I've never shot the sr9 but heard that they are both pretty accurate guns. I've shot my buddies xd's but they just don't feel the same. Don't know how to post pics here since I'm doing all this from my phone so you guys can see exactly what I'm talking about. Maybe I'll do it later from my computer.

Scratch on the serrations in the rear.

I'd go to the store and have them take it back to make it right. That'll mean a new gun altogether or send it back to Ruger.

When I bought my new Ruger SR9, there was a small dent on the slide that I didn't see when I bought it. I didn't want to contact the GS where I bought the gun because it's an out-of-town GS. I called Ruger customer service, they sent me a UPS overnight shipping label via email to send the pistol back to them in Arizona. It took exactly 12 days from the day I sent it in to the day I received it back. The SR9 came back with a perfect slide. :)

It's important that you get what you paid for...a new gun. JHearne (above) has the real answer. Take it back to your dealer and say "Get me a new gun."
If your dealer can't/won't make it right for you, as was said above, you'll need to call Ruger Service. Tell them your gun isn't right; they will give you a return authorization label, and will provide that a shipper will pick up your gun at your front door within two or three days. (Of course, this is something that your DEALER should do; it is his responsibility.)
It may take up to two weeks to get it back, but then it should be "new."
I had an early production SR9c and had to do this twice for two separate items, but they were great. My gun now runs 100%.
