I came across 2 Old Style 3 screw Rugers with the transfer bar still in them. I would say they are about 85 to 90 percent. This is what caught my eye the serial numbers are 2 numbers apart (i.e. 048-050). I was wondering if anyone out there might be to give me a ballpark figure on what the pair might be worth? I don't know if the serial numbers would make any difference on the asking price of the pair or not. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? I APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL RESPONSES....THANKS..

CookE..

Ron is correct. We need details. Serial numbers can be a big deal,,, IF,,, IF they are unique. (Example; true 2 digit subscriber numbers command a bit more.)
The fact these guns are used,,, and have been converted detracts from value,,, BUT,,, if they are a desirable model,,, well,,,, that can boost the pricing a bit.

As I like to say,,, the devil is in the details.

Blued Ruger Single Six 5 1/2", .22 cal., one cylinder, serial numbers 822447 and 822450, they have the original Ruger wood grips, and neither revolver HAVE BEEN BEEN CONVERTED, THEY STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL TRANSFER BAR IN THEM. Like I said before I would grade them about 85 to 90 percent.

I think the guns might be from the 60's or maybe the early 70's, just a guess......

What is a true 2 digit subscriber number?

I want to thank you guys for your responses, it's a great help........CookE

If the "3-screw" guns in question have transfer bars, they have been "converted".
According to the chart on the Ruger website, your's seem to have been made in 1969.

Around here, the price of a 5-1/2" "converted" Single Six in 85-90 percent condition and having an RX3-RED grip frame will run about $275-$300.
If the original (take off) parts are with it, add about $75.
Close but not consecutive serial numbers may or may not add value. That would be up to a prospective buyer.

Hope this helps.

Ok,,, excellent details,,, as seen by the info added after you posted them. As noted,,, the transfer bar was not an original action part,,, so these guns have been "converted." As such,,, unless the original parts are with them,, it deducts from the value. As noted,,, these 2 s are "close" in numbers,, but there are 2 guns in between them missing. Still kinda nice. You asked about "true 2 digit subscriber" guns. Well, there used to be a program, where Ruger would take the first serial numbers of a new gun design & let certain people get that exact same number. Gun writers, close friends of Bill, certain people who had a special interest in Rugers, who were selected to receive any & all new firearm introductions, all bearing the same number. Example; I now own 5 guns,,, all serial number 21, that were subscriber guns for Harlon Carter, the head of the NRA (at one time.) Different models, but all with the same low serial number. Several of us collectors prize very low numbers, and especially when attached to a famous person.
Unfortunately, the 2 guns you've listed are not "special" in that regard,,, and are converted. With the condition you've described,, I'd place the value of each gun at about $250 tops. A set of proper original parts to convert them back is about $75 each. Now, if someone had one of the 2 guns (or both) in the middle of those, they would find them desirable.

I am so sorry you guys I have the start of the dreaded dementia, it' not to bad yet it seems like it likes to act up when I'm writing something of importance like I'm trying to do now with these guns. These Rugers if they were made in 1969 that is EXACTLY THE WAY THEY ARE NOW. THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN SENT IN AND WORKED ON. IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME RIGHT RUGER WANTED EVERYONE TO SEND IN THEIR SINGLE SIXES AND HAVE THAT TRANSFER BAR INSTALLED AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER, SO IN CASE THE GUN WAS DROPPED IT MIGHT NOT FIRE. MINE HAVE NEVER BEEN WORKED ON. AGAIN, SO SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION AND THANKS AGAIN...........MAYBE SOMEDAY WHEN YOU GUYS REACH MY AGE (5 years older than dirt) you will understand. YOU HAVE TO BE DAMN TOUGH TO GROW OLD IT IS NOT EASY. YOU WILL FIND OUT THE ONLY THING GOLD IS YOUR PEE......I'M A RETIRED POLICE OFFICER OF 44 YEARS AND I THOUGHT I WAS READY FOR ANYTHING AND WAS GOING TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE IT WITH NO PROBLEMS, BOY WAS I IN FOR A BIG SURPRISE.............REMEMBER IT IS BETTER TO BE JUDGED BY 12 THAN CARRIED BY 6.........GOD BLESS AND BE SAFE...

CookE,,, PLEASE understand we were ONLY replying to your description. If you were upset by our replies,,, I will personally apologize. And,,, do NOT apologize for having a nice long life,,, just enjoy the fact you've had the experience!

Now,,, if the guns are as they were shipped in 1969,,, no transfer bars,,, so the value increases a bit. Actually,,, up to around the $325-$350 mark.

Ruger Guru, guys I want to apologize to all you if I left the impression that I was upset with your answers, it was just the opposite I was just pleased that you guys took the time to help someone out with a problem or a question. Just a quick note about myself l was a range master and firearms instructor for 40 years and in those 40 years I taught a lot of officers to shoot. I shot competition for 44 years and everyone I taught to shoot I showed them every little secret I knew that could help them win matches. I knew guys that would not tell you anything for the fear that you might end up out shooting them. They seem to forget that some night in a dark alley that guy might be his back-up in a shoot-out...SORRY SOMETIMES I GET UP ON THAT SOAP BOX AND I'M LIKE DONALD TRUMP I JUST STARTED AND I JUST CANNOT STOP, BUT I WILL STOP TONIGHT.......THANKS GUYS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.....
STAY SAFE AND WAIT FOR YOUR BACK-UP...........GOD BLESS....

Do any of you guys remember where I set my coffee cup down? It would be nice to find it while it's still hot.

CookE,,, its the "caps" in your post that made us THINK you were shouting. When a lot is typed in caps,,, it is computer speak for shouting or extreme emphasis.

We are GLAD to help,, any way we can.

BTW; Seeing you are a retired LEO I want to say "Thanks" for your service to your community,,,, and it's good to see you succeeded in doing the number one thing I tell my LEO son; "Be sure you do your job in a what you go home to your family every night."

Ruger Guru, PLEASE TELL YOUR SON TO PRACTICE WITH HIS WEAPONS A LOT. THERE ARE JUST TO MANY OFFICERS OUT THERE THAT NEVER TAKE THEIR WEAPON OUT OF THE HOLSTER EXCEPT ON THE DAYS THEY HAVE TO QUALIFY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE STATS ARE NOW, BUT A FEW YEARS BACK IF YOU TOOK THE TOP SHOOTERS ON THE DEPT. AND THEY WERE IN A SHOOT-OUT THEIR HIT RATE WAS ONLY LIKE 25 OR LESS PERCENT ON THE SUBJECT. NOT GOOD, CAN YOU IMAGINE THE GUYS THAT NEVER GO OUT AND PRACTICE? THANK YOUR SON FOR ME FOR BEING OUT THERE AND DOING THE JOB. I REMEMBER AN OLD TIMER TELLING ME WHEN I FIRST GOT ON THE JOB "IF ANYONE PULLS A GUN ON ME HE HAS JUST COMMITTED SUICIDE". I LIVED BY THAT FOR 44 YEARS....REMEMBER IT'S BETTER TO BE JUDGED BY 12 THAN CARRIED BY 6.......YOU HESITATE, YOU DIE AND YOU DON'T GO HOME TO YOUR FAMILY AFTER SHIFT.................ONE MORE THING THAN I PROMISE I WILL QUIT, SORRY FOR THE "CAPS", BUT I HAVE TROUBLE WITH MY EYES AND I JUST CAN'T SEE THESE SMALL LETTERS SO THAT IS WHY I USE THE CAPS.........STAY SAFE AND MAY GOD BLESS......

Ok CookE,,, I understand the "caps" now.

Fortunately,, my son does shoot a lot more than many of his fellow officers. I did a fair job of raising him. When he was first hired,,, & he went for his first quals, he failed. He'd never shot a Glock, and it didn't "fit" his hands. His Captain said; "I'm not telling your Dad how bad you did." Well, he did not even leave the range before calling me. I told him to bring duty gun & some ammo & I'd evaluate his shooting.
Turned out he & I both have the same issue with a Glock,,, it doesn't fit our hands like a 1911. We both shoot high when pushing ourselves. I taught him how to roll his wrists over a bit to make the gun shoot to point of aim & on his re-qual, he shot a 99 out of 100.
That was over 10 years ago,,, and he's a detective now. Same department. And he married into a shooting family. We ALL get along quite well!
But I do stress to him to make sure he goes home at night, and to NOT take any un-necessary chances. Situational awareness,,,AND to make sure he suspects EVERYONE at any scene until proven safe.

But you are correct in how many LEO's are not gun people & never fire their duty firearms unless they are at quals. I'd say approximately 85% of LEOs are not gun people to where they enjoy shooting & spend the time practicing like they should.
