Wait!!! I was wrong. Mystery Box was on door step today when I returned from Bass Pro. Needed 2400 and XTP's. I have a folding knife, black Ruger cap. T shirt. Ruger bandana. Key chains And a Collector Box. So there GTX
Ok, ordered the mystery box. would be fun gift for a gun person. Mine came with a good quality locking CRKT pocket knife with clip, key chain ( Cheap) Ruger baseball cap ( nice quality) Ruger Bandana, CRKT Paracord survival Bracelet ( Don't have a clue what to do with it) Pokka Pen ( Cheap) and Ruger catalogs, USA pen and decal. Like I said, fun gift, but NOT worth 100 bucks. Not really worth 50 bucks. Mine came opened from the post office. Was suspicious at first as to maybe something was missing. Maybe the USPS thought there was a gun in the box, But I had everything in it. I would buy it only as a fun gift to someone who is a gun enthusiast.

Well, when they sent me this ad about the mystery box,,, I considered it a bit,,, but not in a "gotta have it" mode.
Then I read the posts trashing Ruger for their marketing methods & what they were trying. And I recalled the MANY times I've seen folks here call them, needing something, and getting it for FREE!!!!!!!! I even got an item I needed from them recently, well worth more than the $50,,, FREE to me,,, so I figured that between the bashing of Rugers marketing,,, and how well they have treated so many,,, I decided to order me one of these "Mystery Boxes."
Mine came today.
I just went through it,,, and went to the Ruger website to price out what they sent me.
The CRKT knife,,, I didn't find one just like it,,, BUT,,, it comes close to the M16-10KZ that sells for $79.95. AND the one I got says; "Limited Edition" on the blade. I'll be in a few years,,, a Ruger collector who is chasing different knives that Ruger offered,,, will gladly pay me at least the $80 I'd ask. (Doubt this,,, go look at the "All Weather" knives.)
The hat, while the version I got isn't listed,,, most hats similar to it sell for $15.95 to $19.95.
The decal; It is a smaller version of one they sell for $1.95. As a collector of "Pins, Patches & Decals," (The title of one of my displays at the ROCS show last year & for a few years in Harrisburg,,,) I was VERY happy to get this version. I did not have one in my collection,,, & wonder if it'll be available anywhere else.
The keychain,,, listed on the website for $6.95.
The hatpin, listed on the website for $3.95.
The bandana,, $12.95
The Paracord bracelet,, not listed, that I could find,,, but if they'd place a value on it,,, I'd say in the $15.95 to $25.95 range. JUST A GUESS HERE.
The printed catalogs. No longer easily available unless you attend a trade show, OR a Ruger sponsored event. The main catalog,,, MAY be the same one I got at SHOT,,, but I'll have to carefully check it to be sure.
However, there was a separate catalog,,, the "2016 New & Featured Products" that I have not seen. Again, as a collector of odd Ruger stuff,, as well as all the catalogs & such,,, this was also an item I did not have in my collection.
The "Pokka" ink pen is an odd item, as it is NOT marked as a Ruger endorsed product.
So, to the folks who feel they might get cheap stuff, or "ripped off" or whatever, & chose to chastise Ruger for a different marketing angle,,, I'm sure my post hasn't changed you mind.
But to us collectors, who collect a lot of odd & different Ruger stuff, and who display things, or who are able to answer questions because we have the correct catalogs etc,,, I'm sure I speak for them when I say I'm quite happy with my Mystery Box. Was it worth the $60 odd it cost me, (after shipping charges,)??? In MY personal opinion,, absolutely. Besides, I still came out way ahead thanks to the kindness I received from them in the free stuff they sent me.

This Pokka pen writes on my slick reloading labels I'm happy Ruger has sent me many free parts. The last being, 3 new Ejection rod covers I agree with Contender
i still didnt get mine, However after reading thru the posts again- I'm cool with just the empty box, this has been fun, it got me involved with this forum, And i thought back at things they did that surprise me, Wood inserts for my Super Redhawk- I called to order the dark laminate like what came with the Casull models,Ruger rep said shed have to get back with me,She did with a package with those in there. Or when i sent my P-91 DC to them because it didnt feel rite when i put it back together, they cleaned it,replaced some parts like springs and shipped it to me -you guessed it FREE, So their marketing of the box has been a fun trip down memory lane already and let me make new friends too. This could be part of why i own Ruger firearms.

Perfectly put Contender! 8) I thought about grabbing one or two of these mystery boxes. Thought about it and thought some more. Not much of a knife person so that wasn't a selling point for me. No means to put in sizes for any shirt and really...none of their shirts really are any I'd been wanting. Not a hat person and for the most part, all the other knick-knacks and such I already have if it's something I'd want so overall, nothing to make me take the bait. Regretting it after seeing what ppl are getting? Not at all. Honestly, other than this Pokka pen and non-site listed pin, nothing will be missed by not being on the shelves in the gun room. I'm sure in due time, those will end up on eBay as "rare collectables". :roll:

Terry,,, now I'm jealous for NOT thinking like you did. Buying two of them, and keeping one sealed. But I'm glad I took the time to share what was in mine so you can have an inventory of your box w/o opening it.

I collect Ruger memorabilia so I ordered one of these Mystery Boxes mainly for the box. I even put in the box on the online ordering form provided for special handling that I'd like them to make sure that box is protected and why.
It came on Saturday. The box was all bent up, the P.O. wrote my address on the side in Magic Marker and the shipping label glued to it. Allot of good it was giving special instructions. It gets even better though.
I called Shop Ruger@ 7:30 this morning when they opened. The lady said that a 2nd or 3 party was who shipped them from St. Louis Mo. She didn't know what could be done or how I could get a new box. I hadn't even opened it yet so they didn't think I was calling because of what was in it. I should have returned it.
That was a disappointment. I got a really cheap CRKT assisted opening knife (Ruger special Edition) MADE IN CHINA. It won't even fully open using the opening lever. I got a red and black Ruger cap, some other Ruger odds and ends, a small Ruger decal and some braided up parachute cord survival bracelet and a Ruger bandanna. Stuff I have no use for and that pen what a joke that is. It was a big disappointment something I won't fall for again. Like I said I wanted the box and it was ruined when I received it.
I've been a been a Ruger customer and somewhat of a serious collector for over 40 years. I have never seen Ruger pull something like this before. Ruger is making plenty of money they surely don't need to pull stuff like this to make a few extra bucks. Since W.B.R. passed away there's been allot of changes and most of them not for the best. I'm not bad mouthing Ruger but it's far from the company it once was which is pretty sad to me.

Got mine yesterday, contents as others have mentioned, but my box was in near perfect shape - without asking for special care.
I'm not really disappointed, was not expecting a new .480 Bisley.

If Ruger had any intention, of this BOX becoming collectible, as they seem to indicate in the hype for it on the site, why not send it in a shipper? The chances of the box itself NOT getting damaged or a label stuck on it are next to NONE. And does a damaged box not deem it virtually worthless as a true collectible?

Why not just order a box (or ten) from Ruger? The marketing ploy comes out of St. Louis - I'm sure they would love to sell a stack of empty boxes. And there are those who will probably pay for them! :roll: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:
Mine should be waiting for me when I get home tomorrow. I ordered it when I was home but have been gone for almost 3 weeks now. While curious as to the contents, I was sure that I wouldn't be disappointed.

Yep it was here. Mine also arrived opened. There was a check list and everything was in the box except the decal. Hope some postal worker is enjoying it. Nice hat and knife among the goodies.
