My "Scrap Book"......

For the past few years I've been keeping scrap book of sorts. This is my reference gun book. Maybe ten, fifteen years ago, I realized my stash of gun magazines was getting too beig and actually unhandy. I couldn't keep up with what I wanted each one for. So, I began saving only the articles by cutting them out of the magazine. I've especially collected "I have this old gun..." pages from the American Rifleman. I use page protectors and insert a sheet of construction paper and slide the page into the plastic protector. Now I've accumulated such a volume I've gone to two volumes, both three ring binders. And, to make it usable, I have index tabs and have printed up a table of contents. So, now I have a fairly complete reference work dedicated to handguns.

For those lucky enough to have experienced Carl Laco, aka Flatgate...

When he visited a Ruger Collectors display, he'd look the display over, and then go to a box full of similar articles, photos, ads, clippings, relative to the displayed items, and share the article or a copy of it, with the displayer.

I am also very guilty of keeping complete magazines from the past. They are un-handy, un-indexed, and now mostly, un-used.

I photocopy the articles I want, that way someone else can get a complete magazine.

Funny that this just came up. I have spend the past several months going through a huge box of firearms magazines form the 80's and 90's. At first I was just gleaning what good info I could that caught my eye. Then one night I have a thought about one day putting together a display for a show, so figured I better go back through and glean what I could that was Ruger related. I found lost of good stuff, pullet it out and put them in clear sleeves in a notebook to use some day further down the road. Last night I dropped off the box at the gun club to share with others.
If anyone has a bunch of 60's and 70's firearms magazines and are tired of storing them and just planning to dump them, please shoot me a PM. I would cover shipping for a flat rate box full if you want to donate them to my future display effort.

No indexing but I’ve saved articles about weapons I own. It would be a good idea to go through and organize the group. Sounds like a winter project.

I used to cut reloading articles and then tuck them in my reloading books. Now I rediscover them when browsing.
