Wayne, I use 3 free hosting sites: PB, http://www.postimage.org & http://www.imgur.com - and like imgur the best.

Postimage used to be easier, before they "improved" the site in the last year.

I use only the "do not resize my image" drop down to select an image size to upload (I usually select "800x600"), but do not change the "default86" or the "expiration" dropdown settings.

For postimage, I click on the pic I want to copy, to segregate it from the rest, then right click my mouse on the segregated image to "properties" & "copy" the URL address before "pasting" it in a thread (with

tags) - I've never had those tails after my propagated pics.

This is a postimage copy/paste from my registered/free account:

FWIW, I like imgur the best because it's easier to upload pics to, and each uploaded pic has a menu of sizes to choose from for copying/pasting the direct url to a post, email, whatever (after clicking/segregating the pic as above).

I guess I don't have the option of right-clicking the photo to get "properties". But I'm still trying. And this photo is not resized. Still just an experiment. The previous photos were resized.

This is a concern of mine also. I have many photos stored only in Photo Bucket. I've done some searching, and it looks like MANY folks are having severe issues, and also are not receiving any replies from Photo Bucket. I'm hoping they get their troubles figured out, so I can get my photos back.

Hi,

Dan and others with this question, neither of these might be the best way, but they work for me. Well, at least this morning, as PB is very close to Microsoft in that what works now won't in 10 minutes when I try it again, and every time they "improve" it things get worse!

1. Log into your account and find the thumbnail you want. Click on it to enlarge. Once it's enlarged, right click on it and a menu pops up. Click on "Save image as" and it will be saved to your computer to wherever it keeps your downloads. This works on a PC running Firefox. I have no idea about using a Mac, other hardware or other browsers to do the same.

2. An alternate method, though longer and more of a PITA, is to find your thumbnail, hover the mouse cursor over it so a little screen comes up that includes "Share" in its menu. Click "Share" and it will ask if you want to email it. Click that you do, put in your email address, do the little monkey motion dance to tell it you're not a robot, and when it's happy with your performance, click on the button ("Share again, I believe) and it will email you a link.

Now, in your email client, look at the picture (it may come up with the message, or you may have to click a link to take you to PB), and right click it, which will give you the same choices as method one above. This works on a PC running Thunderbird. Again, I have no idea about using other hardware/software.

That's what I keep bellyaching about. I cannot log in! Seems a bunch of folks, after paying their upgrade, are subsequently denied access. And photo bucket is not responding to customer support requests.

Once again went to Photobucket and it opened immediately. I have never had a problem. Perhaps I am 'holding my mouth right'!

I think it maybe a case to case ( person to person) thing, I went to PB, did what you said, and it does work, BUT it took almost 4-5 minutes of "loading" ( wheel spinning?) before the picture went full size to right click and "save picture as" took me over 30 minutes to do 4 pictures.....duh :roll:
I grew a beard, and its almost a year later (2017 is only 28 hours and some minutes away) 8)


bottom line, the 'imgur ' seems to work for us, keeping it simple and easy,,,leave the darn pictures over at PB and start over again......... :wink:

With all due respect, Wayne, I think your "tails" issue may be due to the method you're using to copy/paste here (or elsewhere).

As posted above, I prefer to keep to the K.I.S.S. principle, as IME the various pic-hosting websites all have their own (different) idiosyncrasies.

To avoid them, I like to manually enter a pic's url (something like: http://postimage.?2018.jpg ), then add the propagation header (

) to the pasted url.

To re-iterate (for postimage.org):

1) Double left click on the chosen image to segregate it from the herd.

2) With the mouse cursor on the segregated pic, right click to open the pic's menu & select "properties" at the bottom of the menu (which will open a 2nd page of the menu).

3) On the 2nd page, highlight the pic's URL/address via holding the left mouse button down while sweeping the address from top-to-bottom/end-to-end, then "copy" the address for pasting next/later on a forum post (say).

4) In the forum thread, type , then w/o any space "paste" the previously-copied pic URL/address.

5) Again, w/o any space, immediately after the pasted URL/address type .

You should then have:

, without and spaces between the square brackets and the pasted url.

6) Submit the post to the thread to propagate the pic(s).


After speaking with him, I think Dan/rugerguy's got a handle on it now.

Apparently your system or computer displays these photos differently, as doing what you suggested does not produce (for me) the options you're speaking of. But it does give me a bunch of options for photo codes, and a simple touch of my cursor causes the photo code to be copied. And when I actually paste the code to a thread, I can manually remove the tail.

Three days now, and I've not received a response from photo bucket. But they sure were quick to take my money.

Dunno what to tell you, Dan! I just tried, to see if PB would make a liar out of me from earlier in the day, and it took just a hair over a minute to download one picture, with most of that time devoted to trying to get logged in (PB has the absolute worst log in system I can think of!) Once logged in, a second photo downloaded as fast as a DSL connection's capable of doing... :?

Photobucket does seem to vary a lot. Sometimes it works fine, but more and more often lately I've given up in disgust. Login fails, impossibly slow upload times, can't get the IMG links to copy, etc.. I've also decided it does not play well with my iPad when I try to use it.

IME, besides the computer's meg capacity/speed, pic upload/download speeds/times can vary widely with the size of the pic, the type of internet connection (dial-up, cable-modem, satellite dish/landline,etc, etc), AND the crapola (multiple un-cleared cookies, un-cleared browsing history, huge sometimes un-needed files, etc, etc) left on the hard drive.
