I bought this on another forum. It earned its wear and tear honorably, and I'll leave it the way it is, with the possible exception of some new grips.

The serial number is 472895 - am I reading the chart right that this is a Magnum model, made in 1966?

The cylinder is a LR one, and a magnum cylinder I've had rolling around in my desk drawer (unfluted, age unknown) wouldn't fit.

If I do decide to replace the grips, what grip frame is it?

Thanks in advance.

Nice Single-Six,, it should be a great shooter. I think is is a XR3-RED grip frame if it has not been changed. Just pull the grips, it is stamped on the grip frame.

I see a XR3-RED grip framed RSSM. The s/n is WAY too high to be a Magnum Marked version. It was probably shipped as a convertible. Who knows what cylinder is with the gun? It's not very difficult to figure that out.... In additon, it's had a grip repair.... someone pried the grip panel off and snapped off a significant chunk of walnut. Holster wear on the ejector tube and the barrel, cylinder and cylinder frame puts this example in the "shooter grade" classification.

Still, it could be the best shooting Ruger you've ever seen! :D

Nice old piece.

Just to confirm . . . what does it say on the left side of the frame just below the cylinder?

:)
It says "Ruger .22 Cal Single- Six"

Thanks for the info and comments.

I just took it out into the BLM for a little shakedown. It functions perfectly, and was a load of fun to shoot. I haven't shot a Single Six in many years, but this felt like shooting with an old friend. It is unconverted and I really enjoyed the sound and feel of the older action.

It does shoot high - probably six inches at 25 yards. I was able to hit a toaster sized rock on a hillside at a laser-ranged 106 yards regularly.
