I was born & raised in Rutherford County NC. Lived there most of my life. I currently live just inside the edge of another County,, but part of my property is in Rutherford County.
My hometown is Lake Lure & it's in Rutherford County.

Well, this week, the Rutherford County Commissioners made a Declaration. They have declared that Rutherford County is a Second Amendment Sanctuary. It's County Sheriff was on TV,, reading part of it, and supporting it. He used to be an Officer in Lake Lure & a friend of mine.

And the FoNRA of Rutherford County enjoys SOLID support from many of the local politicians & dignitaries.

God Bless them!

( I wonder if I could get the rest of my property annexed into Rutherford County?)

I hope the trend continues and more countys do the same.

Our Sheriff (Harnett County) probably would but I think the local goverment has already been over run with outsides

Pahrump Nevada where I visit once a year did this a few months back.

But you know, be careful, it can lead to problems... like the guy who is now convicted of having an illegal suppressor in Kentucky.... the state said they were immune from Federal gun laws but now are not helping the poor guy out at all. Remember a few years back a couple states, S.C. was first, decided they just didn't want to have anything to do with Federal laws and we know how well that worked out.

That's great. Unfortunately, that's not how it goes everywhere.
I'll admit Missouri as a whole(minus the metro areas) is "gun friendly" but my county is more on the level of "gun indifferent". Out of sight=out of mind and don't worry about it. Now this may also depend on who you are and/or how well you're known. I've lived right here and been a part of the community all my life. The current Sheriff's wife was in my class and his Dad and mine were friends. The Deputies are younger but I knew their Aunt, Uncle, Dad, Mom or someone in their family. My Daughter was a dispatcher while a couple of the Deputies were working. Last month, I had a complaint with the city police of the county seat town and presented it to the Police Chief. He was a bit haughty until I mentioned I knew all his Uncles and had dated two of his Aunts back in high school and then we got down to an honest discussion of the issue.
Back to the OP, I seriously doubt the county Sheriff here would step out of a limb to make such a comment simply because he'd be concerned it might cost him the vote of some of the more liberal citizens.

We all know it's a mostly symbolic gesture. And there really isn't any legal grounds to make anything any stronger than the Bill of Rights. But it was done to send a message of Freedom to many around us here.

I'm going to catch the Sheriff & quietly discuss it with him to see the back story & such.

But it was fun to hear it on the liberal news station out of Trashville,,, eerrr,, Asheville!

I thought the Southern Appalachian Mountains was already a Second Amendment Sanctuary!?

mohavesam,,, I don't have a copy of it yet.

And read my post about how it's mostly symbolic.

But,, go to the Rutherford County NC dot gov web site to see if you can get a copy of it. (I'm not sure of the exact web address,,, but you can search for it.)

Could you please send a copy of that "Second Amendment" thing to the west coast? I thing it's missing from the rule sheet here in CA.

I had some relatives and a bunch of their friends try something similar except on a bigger scale back in about 1860. It didn't turn out so well. We're still suffering from the results to this day. :D

I think if they had some news papers from November of 2008 to show some of the folks on the other side back then what was going to happen in the future there never would have been any resistance to their ideas. In fact I think they would have joined in.

Not missing, just a but slow to catch on. Look up the City of Needles in San Bernardino County--they were talking about this a week or so ago... dunno where they got with it. As I read it, there were two major points in their proposal. First was to recognize any out of state CCW in the City of Needles (CA doesn't recognize any other State's CCW.) Second point was this new law that CA residents can't buy ammo out of state and bring it home with them. In Needles, to buy ammo you either go a couple of miles across the river and buy in AZ, or drive close to 100 miles to the nearest vendor on the CA side. The City wanted dispensation on that deal.

If there's any selling point to Needles, it's that it's surrounded by about a zillion acres of pure desert, and I don't think the San Bernardino County Sheriff's too worried about what goes on out there...

Hey Contender... does that mean the Sheriff of Rutherford county says he no longer has to approve handgun purchases?
I'd ask him that question and see where it goes..... and if he is going to the defense of anyone that violates state law.

but how many are native to the county?
is it because pro gunners are migrating to the county, or is it just the natives are making the declaration after a few whispers in officials ears?
look at conn. conn has become anti gun due to ny'ers moving to conn, bringing their anti gun mindset with them.

my question is...how long will your good thing last as more liberal oddballs move to n.c?
as you mentioned, Ashville is lost to the oddballs. who's next?
and, one election shift to the left, and your commissioner and sheriff can be gone.
