My Mom’s quick soup trick

Thought some here might be able to use this trick at the hunting camp this year.

My mom is the soup queen she makes the best soups ever. But it takes all day to do and a lot of ingredients.

Her trick to make it easier when we were camping. Was to add a can of V-8 to the soup. It has all the subtle ingredients including salt and celery that make a bland quick soup taste good and taste like it’s been simmering all day.

No it does not turn it into tomato soup. 1 can to a pot of soup gets dispersed pretty well.

That’s a good idea.
I have a friend who, when unanticipated additional hungry guests arrive, just adds Tabasco sauce to whatever he fixed for the meal. Quick n easy.

;)

My mom made her own V-8 - of sorts - when I was a kid. I was pretty picky on eating vegetables so mom would take all the vegetables from her vegetable soup fixings and toss them in the blender. I eventually ate the veggies whole but still would ask for the blended soup. Very tasty stuff!

Lol! That’s one way to stretch a meal. Stop everyone from eating so much by making it too spicy!

I had a friend when I’d show up around supper time. When his dad saw me he’d yell “add more water to the soup ma! We got guests”.

After several trial and error projects, I've found a combination of canned vegetables that can be added w/o further prep to browned, crumbed venison burger and crock potted 4 hours to make a decent vegetable soup. It's not quick and the canned vegetables aren't the "cheapest" but the results are good enough for a guy who's doing his own cooking or for hunting camp.
I always keep a couple of varieties of "Shore Lunch" (or similar) dry soup mixes and a couple cans of pre-cooked chicken breast meat. Less than 1/2 hour gets a pot of soup adequate for 4-6. Last fall, I did chicken noodle to add to some smoked brisket one of the other hunters had brought to elk camp and surprised the entire group with the flavor and ease of preparation.

I like V8 a lot, thanks for the tip, i'm going to try that with my next batch.

I make a decent-tasting New England Clam Chowder (aka: white chowder) in about 10 mins for under $5.

* 1 can, 10oz, (I use Campbell's) Cream of Potato soup (condensed) - $1.50
* Milk (fill the empty potato soup can) - $0.25
* 1 can, 10oz, any brand whole baby clams - $1.50
* 1/8 Tsp (+/-) Dill
* Salt/Pepper to taste.
* 1 pat Butter (or oleo)

Mix all ingredients in saucepan (including the clam juice), heat until soup thickens, then garnish with butter B 4 serving.

A can of vegall, a cup of water, a packet of chicken or beef bouillon, either canned meat of some sort or chopped venison, chicken, or ground beef, enough mashed potato flakes in your flavor to your consistency. Takes less than 15 minutes. I will have to try the V-8 in that!

Speaking of Veg-All, I carry a can of veg-all behind the seat of my truck for emergency rations. I hate it so I’m not tempted to use it unless the situation is truly desperate.
