My late father had an interesting girl friend. One, she was from England and had lived through the blitz of London when the Germans were bombing the hell out of the place. She live quite a few years after my dad's passing and the whole time I knew her, she was an avowed atheist. She had lung cancer and emphesima (sp) but on her deathbed fighting to breathe she was asking God for forgiveness. She passed shortly after.

If you are a Bible Thumper and you are right, you'll go to heaven. If the atheist is right you won't go anywhere so it doesn't matter that you were wrong.

If you are an atheist and you are right, it doesn't matter. If the Thumper is right and you were wrong you'll go to hell.

So, there are 2 choices with 3 potential outcomes - heaven, hell or nothing. As an Professional Practicing Engineer that always addressed the worst case scenario, I see only one logical choice here.

OTOH, I worry about liberals carrying guns, no matter whose side they are on....

I encourage anyone and everyone to watch Pastor Jentezen Franklin on a couple of Sunday mornings (Free Chapel Live on YouTube). The sermons are certainly appropriate to life today. I would think that even a non-believer would find them interesting.

I can't say much about the Mormon religion beyond this. My grandmother was raised in a strict Mormon family. At 18 she had the audacity to fall in love with a non Mormon and even worse a soldier. She was kicked out of the family and religion. She became pregnant with my father. Her husband died during the Muse-Argonne offensive of WWI and she had to make it entirely on her own.

About ten years ago my sister was doing family history stuff and located the child of one of my dad's cousins. We met with her and one of the things she assumed was that we were Mormon. When I explained that it was the absolute last religion I would join she became offended. She claimed they "weren't that way anymore". Yea, like a tiger can change it's stripes.

Religion, just like politics, is a subject best left alone in a discussion. If I've learned anything in this life it's that you will never convert someone by words alone. But speaking of words... I firmly believe the following:
