My Mark111 and me have been at each other's throats since i brought her home about 4yrs ago. It has always been a pain in the ass to disassemble and way harder to reassemble. In those 4yrs I have bent both the sear spring stop and the sear pivot pin, no idea how the pivot pin bent. But I replaced both. Plus I marred up the back of the frame pretty bad taking the main spring in and out. I've read stories on how others Mark111's come apart so easy that they practically take themselves apart. I wish I would have gotten one of those, lol.
Well let's just say I hated taking it apart so bad that I quit doing it. But the big dummy that I am and my OCD on having clean firearms plus I bought a hammer strut support from TomV on the forum I figured I might as well give it a go and strip the whole thing down for a good cleaning.
Everything went good except I bent the hell out of the magazine disconnector spring trying to reinstall it. Don't ask!
So I figured I would just buy a Voquartsen target kit with the SS trigger for a Mark11 and eliminate the magazine disconnector. So I got the parts and installed them. Pretty much it went together fairly easy. So it's back together and I'm adjusting the trigger to where I want it when all of a sudden the bolt feels funny and the trigger won't work. Here the hammer pivot pin backed out of its hole.
So I disassemble again and find that my Ruger wooden grips have a chunk missing allowing the pin to back out. WTF!
So the only way I can take her back apart to get the pin back in place is to pull the pin out with pliers because the bolt locked up. So I do that and put it back together and throw my factory plastic grips on. Well I get the trigger feeling pretty good and I'm playing with it when I realize my safety won't engage, again WTF!
So let's just say I'm getting pissed. Back apart again and again and again, probably 8/10 times. Here it's the notch on the safety isn't big enough to grab the Voquartsen sear. Out comes the file. After 3 or 4 more times of disassembly and file work I got it to work. IMO I removed quite a bit.
But now I have a nice shooting Mark111 that seams to have loosened up a bit and I can fully disassemble in my sleep blind folded. The only thing is the back of the frame is still marred. I was thinking about having it creakoted olive drab and leave the barrel blued.
And I contacted Ruger about my grips and the are sending me a new set, free of charge.

Well at least now you can easily take apart and clean to satisfy your OCD. lol

Great of Ruger to replace the grips. Sucks about the marred frame though. Pachmayer grips might cover it at least. Downfall there is hat you still have a marred frame and you need to take the grips off to take it apart.

If you cerakote it you will be able to choose any color at least. You can go two tone as you said or have the complete gun done.

Out of curiosity, how does the hammer strut support work for you. I usually can put mine back together fairly easily, but every once in a while I have a bad hair day and it takes me a couple times to re-assemble.

The hammer strut support works flawlessly.
I think the olive drab two tone would look good.
And yes I'm very pleased with Ruger's service. I looked on their web page and the grips I have aren't offered anymore. But they have similar ones only with the target thumb rest. Which will be fine with me.

My MK III is now more a MK II+ after the internal 'mods' I have made. I too had a problem with the strut support pin backing out. I simply cut a small piece of flat rubber from a sheet I had and placed it over the pin and under the grip. No problems since. I did contact Ruger about the problem and heard absolutely NOTHING back from them.

After all this happened I did a search on the hammer pin backing out and found that it's happened before. I also found their was a company in I think Oregon that was making a replacement pin with a bigger head on it. I contacted the guy but he said he is out of business due to regulations from the federal gov. and he had no more in stock. He suggested placing a flat washer on the back side of the grip.
He also said people had the biggest problems when they used the houge rubber grips.
I wound up finding the correct size washer to fit while using the black plastic grips and it stays in place on the grip with out any glue. I don't know if I need it but their was some play between the pin and grip. Better safe then sorry.
I hope the new wood grips are tighter.

Oh and I did learn to use little pieces of scotch tape to hold the sear pin and sear spring pin in place when assembling

Yes it was all my fault. Except for the piece of the grip breaking off.
And Wil I know it's III but what I'd really like to try out one of the new Mark1111 lite's to see what I could break on it. Lol

I love my Mark III. Have done all the Volquartsen upgrades and it works great. Still waiting for my VQ trigger kit for my Mark IV. It came with the worst trigger I've ever used. But the gun works flawlessly with whatever ammo I try in it.

Good luck with your Mark III. If you want a Mark IV make sure you try the trigger before buying the gun. It's a $100 update that you may not want to spend.

One of my 22/45 series 3 has been apart more in a year than my old 22/45 series 2 has been in the 10 years I've owned it. Hoping that episode is over with now.

What problems have you run into?

"What problems have you run into?"

Not "problems". Modifications would be a more suitable term. Put new parts in, test fire. Put different new parts in, test fire. Change mind and replace some/all stock parts. Start over. Finally buy complete lower 1/2 will full Volquartson upgrade, install, happy now.
THEN redistribute the now excessed upgrade parts through 3 other 22/45 Series 3 pistols.
