Never got to see Roy but I did meet Gene Autry and his wife when I was about nine back in 1950. My mother ran a roadside fruit and vegetable stand. They pulled into our yard and wanted to see everything as my folks had a little of everything. I recall the seats in their car were cowhide with the hair on, tooled leather, and I believe it also had steer horns etc. They visited with my folks for maybe a half hour. I was shy and kind of peeked around a tree etc.
I didn't immediately know who he was as we had no TV and didn't go to the movies.
They told the folks who they were and of course I knew of the name from classmates and maybe a couple comic books. Later I never missed "Melody Ranch" on the electric radio brought to us by Wriggly`s chewing gum.
