my first mkII lr22

just picked it up and am excited to hit the range. anything I should know about or look for on this. it's a 1983 but looks like they kept really good care of it.

Give it a good thorough cleaning before you shoot it. Field strip it, take the grips off, and hose it down with CLP and let drip dry or blow it out with compressed air. Put a drop of oil on all the pivot pins, recoil spring, and lightly coat the bolt-I like Rem-Oil. Make sure your magazines are clean, but don't oil them. When you shoot it the first time use good ammo, any CCI should cycle well. DO NOT use any hyper velocity, it will hurt your gun.

There's lots of passionate opinions, regarding Stingers, or other hyper-velocity .22 LR ammo.

I have owned and shot, a whole bunch of these Ruger autos, over a lot of years, and I've shot many Stingers in all of them, without any ill effects of any kind. Just so happens, some of my guns shoot the Stingers as good as, or better than any other ammo.

The CCI website says, regarding Stingers...

Concerning ammo, if your Ruger has not been shot much, I recommend high velocity round nose 22 long rifle for the first hundred rounds or so for break in. In my experience, the Ruger repair folks in Prescott use round nose ammo such as CCI Mini Mag, Federal Lightning, Remington Golden Bullet, or Winchester Wild Cat to verify function when they repair a pistol.
