Recently, I posted a thread about building an AR10. There was some WONDERFUL advice shared in that thread, and honestly, I should have paid more attention to several of the posts.

It's true. "There is NO mil-spec for an AR10 308." Not even cross-manufacturer spec.

Well, it turned out to be a huge PITA, but I finally got it completed and learned something first hand y'all tried to tell me.

Finding parts is damn near impossible... such as: Some handguards work, some don't. The buffer tube threads/length isn't standard. Buffer and spring? Nope! Etc.

I thought DPMS or Armalite would work. Nope! Each brand has its own specs for AR10.

Well after a huge headache, I finally got my PSA PA10 built. It was a nightmare and when a buddy offered me more for it than what I had into it, I didn't hesitate.

So now I'm researching best .308 semi-auto platform.

He also made me an offer I couldn't resist on my PSA Freedom AR15. So I have some funds now!

Building AR15s is a lot easier. I've done 5 so far. Not including the one I rebuilt for a buddy when it failed after a long day of 3-gun. Though I hesitate to mention the brand.

As for the PSA PA10, once we got it running right, correct lower end, we were ringing steel at 250 yards consistently. It was a 10 inch gong. I'm sure the rifle was capable of more but we only had a crap scope.

Check out Windham Weaponry for a quality AR10. Bought one after reading several positive reviews about this 308 and couldn't be more happier with my purchase, plus Windham has both great customer service and OEM accessories for it also Function and accuracy has been 100% in mine with slightly less than 1'' 3 shot groups at 100 yds.

This is discouraging.

I've been planning a build and invested in a lower so far.

IF the platform isn't as modular as the AR15, I'm not sure why the investment necessary would be worth it. There are viable lower cost options.

Anyone want to buy a lower receiver?

I started with the upper, great configuration. But the DPMS lower I ordered, nothing lined up. So I had to purchase a PSA lower. Then I stripped my DPMS lower and used the parts for my PSA lower. That's where everything went to Hell. Nothing was compitble.

Then I started researching...

I wound up selling the stripped DPMS lower, the strippped PSA lower and all the parts.

Used the money to fund a complete PSA lower knowing the parts would be hard to get individually.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Palmetto State Armory. Some of my BEST most solid AR15 builds have come from them and I'm planning another.

What I sold the AR10 for was still more than I paid to build it. But less than he was about to pay for a DPMS Oracle LR-308. And he got it in a very good configuration.

It worked out well for both.

"There is NO mil-spec for an AR10 308."

Well... Armalite had military contracts with a handful of small countries, so there is (or was) a "Mil-spec" for the AR-10. ;) :D
