I find that hard to imagine with Deerstalker.
I bought at least 4 items from him with zero issues.
Sometimes travel and other things caused a delay...but...no issues.

Say you bought an in stock item from a vendor. They processed your payment immediately. Would you be satisfied after a month with no item and no explanation? In my opinion, this isn’t really any different.

I'm in no hurry & wasn't questioning his honesty...just wanted to find out if he was in the hospital or something. I've had that happen with personal transactions before. No worries. Thanks for the re-assurances. 8)

While you would be spot on if you where shopping at a retail store. You are way off the mark when shopping with the Alaskan. Hummmm how does one cash a check if he's out in the bush? Simple his wife deposits it in his account for him. He'll come home sooner or later and ship your guns not to worry.

Sorry, but communication is key. If he is going into the bush for an extended period at least he should have the courtesy of informing those who have entered into a transaction with him.

I don't know either party either, and based on who has spoken up for him, Mr. Deerstalker is no doubt honest. HOWEVER...

In general, cashing someones check and no word for a month? Thats not acceptable to me or any other reasonable person I know. Hell, 20 years ago in Gunlist with snailmail, waiting for the check to clear, trying to get ahold of a guy by phone, a monthlong transaction back then was unheard of.

If a wife can cash a check, she can mail the gun too. Next time one of you guys buys a gun from a private seller, just tell him to 'go ahead and ship the gun, I'll be gone for a month or more but I'll send the money sometime.'

going into the bush for an extended period

Well .... Scott knew he was "going into the bush" but not for an extended period.

He called me using a satellite phone a couple of days ago and asked me to relay his apologies for the weather and hunter related unexpected delays. Obviously, I don't know who all Scott may have sold a gun to but ..... as folks posted something I shot them a PM on his behalf.

I have bought more than a few from Scott and you won't find a more trustworthy person in my book. He has even shipped my purchases on several occasions before he received my funds.

I totally agree that communications is key, but I'll put my money on Scott any day.

And there are some nervous nellies out there that don't know the meaning of patience.

I think brynefish is fine with simply asking about any member he may have transacted business with. You have to remember we all don't know each other as maybe the next user does.

I have met Scott once,, at a Ruger collector weekend in Harrisburg Pa.
I have had several deals with him, AND have helped others buy from him.
I consider him a friend I'd trust.
He is honest,,,and will deliver.

And,, currently, one of his deals is being done for a friend,, (who has also met Scott,) where we were told he was going on a hunting trip, wasn't scheduled to be back until the 25th,, WEATHER PERMITTING. He also allowed how he'd gladly try to ship the rifle of he could,,, after we got him a copy of the FFL. He said the check could wait until he got back.
So, YES,,,, he WILL ship a gun & wait on the money.

If a person has never had a deal with someone,,, it's ok to politely ask a question. The OP did just that.
To those who have never dealt with the buyer or seller,,, maybe they should wait & see what happens before condemning someone. ESPECIALLY if dealing with someone who lives in Alaska. Shipping, mail, etc is different going to & from there.
And yes,,, all of us, everywhere have lives, as well as livelihoods,,, that can delay anybody for any number of reasons. So, while you may have your "standards" of how a deal should go,, then before a deal is made,,, you should make sure your standards are known to all BEFORE any money is exchanged for products.

Scott works, and getting to a PO as well as packaging stuff etc can be hard,, especially when a seasonal hunting trip where he's the pilot or the guide etc is involved.

A good hunter has plenty of patience,,, knowing the trophy isn't easily gotten.

I had an excellent transaction with Scott! He will honor his word. He may have been gone when the check got there. The bank here knows my wifes signature and would probably call the law if I signed my own paycheck.

Scott does not have any respect for anyone else’s time. That is why I no longer do any business with him. More than once I have sat around waiting for a call he said he would make, or checked the mail every day waiting on something he said he sent and never did. I have also had him cash checks and not send the gun for over a month. It is pretty easy to make a call or send a PM before disappearing into the bush for an extended period of time, but he is too self absorbed to worry about other people’s feelings.

His last post was a just under 3 weeks ago. If he can be online then, he could drop OP a note to let him know timeline. I think OP is absolutely right to be concerned...I’m assuming the deal is worth $1000 or so. That’s not a small amount in my mind.

Communication is key in online dealings.

I will say since mr. Deerstalker has been here for 10 years and has 5,000 posts, he’s not pulling a fast one. I do think a little courtesy would go a long way though.

I have no dog in this hunt but it looks very similar to the comments about my favorite Savage gunsmith. Communication expectations are not always mutual between parties. If everyone gets on the same page at the start of a transaction, things work better. If the transaction situation changes for either party, both need to be made aware of the complication. That is where it looks like most of these breakdowns occur.
