Why does anyone patronize these joints? I haven't been to one in 40+ years for any number of reasons: High cost for crap movies & popcorn, being in close proximity to complete strangers, etc. I sure wouldn't go to one without wearing a full biohazard suit, level 3 armor, and a gun.

Nope, I'll stay home and wait till it comes out on Pay-per-view (haven't rented there either in the last several years).

Gunny - I am RIGHT there with ya! The last time I was in a theater was during my Air Force days which were 40+ years ago. I am absolutely positive I can count the number of movie theaters I've been in my whole life on two hands, and probably have a couple fingers left over! ;)

And I'll take it one step further - I have NEVER done a 'pay-per-view' of anything!

ETA - If I were ever to go inside a theater again, I WILL be armed...

Well, Went to see "American Sniper" at the theater and before that went to see "Lone Survivor" also at the theater.
But those were the only two in a long long time.

Last time I went to a theater was to see Crocodile Dundy one, I think it was 1988 I hated going to them because of all the filth sticky floors, garbage, and noisy people this was before cell phones came out which I am sure now make theaters a totally unbearable place to go.

I use to go to drive inn's quite often when I was young at least you could control the environment you were sitting in your own car and you didn't have to hear the stupid crowds reactions to the movie.

I haven't seen American Sniper yet, it is on Amazon already you can watch it for $1.00 or pay $2.00 to watch in HD, the old lady won't let me have the code to type in to watch pay-per-view shows I only get to watch the free shows.

I like theaters. They have a smell all there own, and the popcorn is pretty good. Sadly, most movies today don't rate a trip to the theater. Though I just saw Minions and laughed extensively.

6gun, There was another very good reason why a young man went to the drive-in. :)

The last movie I saw in a theater was the first chapter of "Lord of the Rings". The speaker volume was so loud I had to stuff toilet paper in my ears.

Some people like to go out to restaurants, movies, gun shows, concerts, as well as any number of things. It's about having something to do. The last movie I saw in a theater was 'The Right Stuff'. I guess I don't get out much anymore. :D

I took my granddaughter to the theatre last year. The place was clean and quiet, there were only a dozen people in there.
Unfortunately a family decided to sit directly behind us. One of the kids decided it was fun to kick my chair. I asked him to stop and the father asked if there was a problem I explained and he told the kid to stop. The kid continued and I said if he did it one more time I'd drag his arse to the manager. He stopped but on their way out he thought it would be fun to try to slap me. I caught his hand and he screamed. Dad got all huffy and tried to defend him but when I showed him I had the kid's hand trapped against my head and explained I should call the cops he changed his tune and got apologetic. I let go and told Dad if he as half a man he would slap thecrap out of thekid-or would the wife have to do it. She did! We had a good laugh.

Side note-when I was married my wife was a theater manager. I hate theaters.

Jeepnik; Just saw Minions what a hoot!!!! I do not mind the theaters at all.

Well,
I'm not much of a movie goer either. But some movies are JUST better on the big screen and the sound system. A few that come to mind Midway, Tora Tora,Tora, Lone Survivor, How the West Was Won, and more. There are some pretty classy movies out there now. Go at the right time and it will be like your own private movie. :D Don't go and you miss a lot.

We are kinda like Jim. We do not go to many movies anymore unless we feel the film will be top quality, AND we want to see it on a bigger screen with all the effects they offer. At most,,,, one movie a year average. And we are smart enough to not buy any of the overpriced junk food there either.

Saw Gravity for $13,senior rate,in Md in '13 and Star Trek here in 2009(wasn't planned, went with others). That's it for many, many years. I'm surprised the prices are as high as they are.

Well were not missing out on much by not getting shot by some deranged liberal maniac in a gun free zone. :P

I did see American Sniper and Lone Survivor, but frankly I can look at what's on at the movies and still not have a clue. Don't recognize anything. Both times I went (anytime) I am packing. Just not worth the risk.

I know I'm wicked old by the number of 'stars' I've never heard of before.

You certainly aren't the Lone Ranger on that point. I haven't heard of them, haven't seen them, have no clue most are "stars". :)

Being retired has gven me a whole new perspective on the theater experience.

I've seen a bunch of movies during weekdays where I was the only one in the theater. No noisy people, no glowing cell phones. NICE.

I always sit where I can see the entrance to the room.

I always light up the seat with whatever Fenix light I'm carrying that day to make sure it's "clean".

And of course I'm always, let's say, capable of defending myself. Today it's a SP101 3" in a Kabar gunpack and a LCR in the left front pocket. It varies.

I never buy the overpriced snacks or drinks. I'll either go have lunch afterwards, or bring in my own snacks.

Movies are the best excuse for me to eat LOTS of popcorn and candy.
I'm still a 12 year old at heart, and sometimes in behavior. :-)
