More waterfalls

Wife and I took advantage of a warm Saturday to head back to the Caney Fork for a winter hike, and the trail took us by a series of waterfalls that come bursting out of caves on the side of the gorge.

Also something you don't expect to see this far south, but these guys are native run here.

All that scenery and muskies, too! Great! Although I'd bring my .22 along if I had to get a 50+ inch muskie in the canoe....those babies BITE and their gill covers are like razors! Kinda a cross between a Northern and a 'gator!

They are native. The Cumberland River watershed holds remnant plant and animal communities common to up north due to the deep hollows and cold waters that helped them hang on after the ice age glaciers retreated. Oddly enough, the world record smallmouth and world record walleye both came from the waters of the Cumberland in TN.

With all the snow we've got I've just been thinking about what all of these beautiful waterfalls must look like now. Sometime this summer I'd like to take off a few days a find a few of them. I've always wanted to canoe the Caney Fork River. Ever been over to Bald River State Park to the falls there? Thanks for posting the pics.

I would love to see some of these in the snow too, but they are really hard to get to when the roads are slick. Plus right now we have so much ice if I got the car out of the garage I wouldn't even be able to pull back up my driveway.


Thanks for the heads up Bald River! Its a bit farther east of us, but we will certainly go check it out when the weather finally breaks.

I made this picture of Bald River Falls last February on our annual scout of the river. The shot of me was made a ways above the falls. The bottom shot was sent to me by a friend who lives near there. I'm about an hour east of Paducah, 2.5 hrs north of Nashville. What part of TN are you in?
