Watching the boob tube today and watched an ad for an 'OWL' that is supposed to make all kinds of animals avoid your garden. One feature spoken of is supposed to make cats, dogs, and racoons run away, are the flashing RED lights. Sound great except cats, dogs, and racoons don't 'see' red. I am sure many will be sold because of that very feature. $19.95 seems to sell most anything.

You forgot the "OH, BUT WAIT!" . . When they try to get you to get you to sign up
for a second "free" one, that you have to pay separate processing and handling
for (which is usually about half the price of what ever they are selling).

GASP . . . that $19.95 does not include the initial P&H either. :shock: .. :roll: . :roll:

The only thing worse than many of those is the "final expense" insurance to pay
the $8,000 which they then round up to $8,800. - - - Well maybe not. There is
also the virtually free additional coverage for Medicare that handles vision, hearing
and dental. :roll: . :roll: . :roll: . :roll:

Just look at it this way, if they were not trying to con us with stuff like that, they
would be spending that time on trying to find something on Trump. :wink:

In my business,, I get questions concerning things like this owl.

I politely ask; "Did you get your education from Disney?"

While a predatory bird can scare a critter,, the critters are smart enough to realize the differences in a fake one & a real one. There are ways to make a fake one deter SOME activity,, by SOME of the critters,, but it takes work!!!!!!! (Place a fake owl in a spot,, leave it for a few hours, and move it to a different location. Keep moving it every few hours, every day, and the critters will get the idea it may live there & avoid the area somewhat. But NOT always.)

Son-in-Law was having problems with pigeons eating the chicken's feed. He got
one of these (link below) and has not had any problems with pigeons since.
My bet is the sun reflecting off the ever changing surface and the (seeming)
strobe effect does it. - - - contender?

I have to laugh every time I drive by a local large condo development. Three stories high with a plastic owl mounted on each roof peak, and about 200 pigeons lined up all in between.

Pat,, I've not had any direct information or use of that reflector. It has possibilities,, but before I'd endorse it,, I'd have to study it more.

Back in the 1950`s I was at work and a deputy came to my moms house wanting to question me. They said the neighbor complained I was "cooning his melons and selling them to the darkies that would come up weekends to fish". Mom just laughed and told him I was too lazy to pick our own melons. They had the town constable sit and watch his place at night. A car drove around the curvy street and it`s headlights reflected against some tin cans he had nailed to the fence posts. He was a old big man that was almost blind with half inch thick glass`s. He came out with a double barreled shotgun and blasted across his dark empty garden. We had been hearing shots in the middle of the night before. Dad got the word before me and saw him at the village grocery store and read him the riot act. A day or two later I bumped into him and he pointed a finger towards heaven and said "He knows!"
