....is it too crazy/bad idea on such a oldie?

Inherited an otherwise ~85~90%+ 4" taper barrel, that has a SS# horribly electro penned onto one side of the frame.

While it shoots well enough, I've always needed a heavy-weight forward style 22, and I can't really see the primitive sights.

No one else in the family is interested in this fine little beastie, and I'd like to shoot it more. A LOT more....

Is a rebuild/upgrade a waste of time/money/GrandOldRooger/etc?

I'm thinking something for the 1-second bracket of the steel challenge matches.....
 
Well, if you are after a gun for use in competition, vs that RST model, I'd opt for selling that one & buying another one with more features to use in competition.
Your gun has fixed sights, and not many parts to upgrade unless you spend serious $$$. If you START with a better platform, then the mods can be easier & cheaper.
