MK speed strip conversion...?

Haven't tried one, and very likely won't.

Don't have trouble with the standard Ruger arrangement, but I understand some folks just can't figure it out.

JMHO
;)

I bought a used MK-II with one in it. I promptly made it stock again. Didn't see any advantage to it. The parts sat in a drawer for ten years and just recently went to a RF member.

I broke mine down for the third time this past weekend... had put well over 5,000 rounds through it with out a hitch but just kind of felt like doing it...

I thought I could do it with out the book... but still had to use the book to get it back together.... I spent 20+ minutes trying to get the grip thingy back in .... did not remember the final step of d holding the trigger back with the pistol pointed up with empty mag installed......

That was me. :D

I was curious about it. Tried it out, and didn't see any real advantage to it. I took it off. Yes it lets you clean the barrel easily, but that's about it. If I'm going to go through the trouble of cleaning the MK, I need to disassemble it so I can get to everything.

Thank you Dan for saving me a bunch of money.

Ironically, I passed on the part to a friend of mine who was curious about it. I think he came to the same conclusion, and passed on the part to his cousin.

But it is etched in your memory forever now isn't it?

See, you saved yourself some cash. Now go buy more ammo.

And the smug Mark II owner asks, "What's this '...empty mag installed...' stuff all about?"

I was curious and put one on one of my Marks. Interesting, works as advertised. Nothing really good or bad to say about it.

+1

I tried one in the last MKII I had because I'm one of those types that if I'm going to clean it, I'm going to take it all the way down. Plus, that one was used and I was going to have it apart anyway.

I had to "file to fit" a couple of parts (been 3-4 years ago so I don't recall which ones) and it did work as advertised. Sold the MKII not long after that with the SS still in and the factory parts in the bag with the instructions so the new owner could convert it back if he wanted.

If I get another MKII, I don't see getting another SS kit. It just wasn't that much of an improvement.
