MK II mag will not stay in

I have a MKII SS 678 slabside competition. Lately I have been having trouble with the mags not being fully seated and at times they come out while shooting. Seems to be worse when the bolt is closed. A LITTLE easier when inserted when the bolt is open, than closed. I have cleaned the gun thoroughly. All 3 mags do the same thing. Can not see where anything is hanging up. Any ideas????

Sounds like it might be something in the mag well (grip). I don't have my Mark II handy to check the latch setup.

I had that trouble before, it was caused by after market grips. Not sure if this matters, but does it do the same regardless of if the magazine is full or not? Is there a chance the magazines are either worn or bent perhaps?

make sure the 'latch' on the bottom of the gun, does NOT have any 'gunk/crud' stuck in or around the front 'notch', and also that you did NOT chip or break off this notch and then make sure the latch is working properly and the spring did not hang up or come loose or break, has to have good tension to maintain pressure on the bottom ,back edge of the magazine, as well as the back edge of the mags themselves are NOT 'rounded off" or chipped ( this happens if dropped, and they land/hit on the bottom edge) yes, a few different things to look at and for.............
also have seen it when one puts the receiver (upper) back on the gun, and its 'tight" if you 'canted' the receiver tube off to one side or the other, may be catching the lips of the magazine, not allowing it to "seat" ( lock in) all the way................
if its doing it with all 3 mags,does not sound like its the mags themselves...

as for the aftermarket grips, this may be the holes are too deep and the screw is going into the frame too far, hanging up the sides of the magazine.

I do have aftermarket grips (Volquartsen Volthane left hand). Today I loosen up the grip screws and by chance I did clean the mag catch extra good. Went to the range and one of these fixes may have done it. Keep my fingers crossed, so far seems to be working. Love my Ruger :D

Now what are the odds. The issues I had were with the same exact grip. I'm left handed, and I picked up a set of the Volquartsen Volthane grips a long time ago. It took me a while to figure out this caused my problems.

My Solution? Take a dremel and rout out the Volquartsen grip material (on the inside) where they contact the gun's magazine opening. It isn't visible and doesn't change the feel of the grips.

Tonight is my bullseye competition league. I well see what happens during the league shoot. Having a mag come out during the timed and/or rapid fire blows your concentration and timing all to hell. But I well be inspecting the inside of those grips anyway, Glad to see there are OTHER left handers out there. Now if Volquartsen would only make the Volthane grips for my MKIII Hunter. Wood ones are too much $$$

I am also a lefty that shoots at my local club. I spent the $$$ for the Volguartsen grips and they are great. I shoot in the tactical 22 cal course and my time and scores are some of the best. I also converted my Mark III 22/45 and removed the magazine safety for speed changing magazines.

I have the Volquartsen grip on my Mark II, and have been having trouble with the rounds nosediving into the feed ramp. Thanks to this thread, I backed out the screws, and the problem appears to have gone away! (At least while hand-feeding the rounds). I'll have to take it to the range to verify.

The screws really protrude into the magwell. I'm considering grinding them down, but the grip fits so tightly by itself, I think that the screws should be fine backed out.

Well, I backed off the screws on my grips and went to my league shoot. Not one problem with the mags staying in, so I guess the problems is with the grips. I do not think the screws are too long, I think they are torquing the frame a little when they are too tight.
