My youngest son flew in a few days ago from Alabama, him & his brothers have been pounding on the ground squirrels, rock chucks & badgers. The first day he showed up he smoked a very, very large badger, this old gummer has been around longer than Callshot.
Then yesterday my oldest son nailed one just outside of town, I've been looking for about 10 days straight, no badgers, I think its the company I"ve been keeping. Probably driving 60-70 miles a day, no badgers!
This is Brett's whopper badger, notice the beautiful, wide stripe down his nose, very nice markings. He shot it right under the chin as it ran towards him, the gun is an old Winchester model 74 (22LR)

A little while later he knocked off a big old graybeard rock chuck using his 22-250.

He will have this one mounted life size, its a real beast.
The one Shane shot went down a hole, we went to town & got a shovel & tried to dig him out (brand new shovel) & the handle broke after 5 minutes. We didn't get him!

Today I mounted an Ultra Dot red dot on my Ferminator 44 maggie with the 10 1/2" tube, I was afraid the rifling might be shot out of this thing when I first got it from all the hot loads he likes to run....but it seems to be doing OK. After dialing the scope 2-3 times it really started shooting. I was feeding it a diet of 240 gr Mihec HP's over 10 grs of Unique, I think these are coasting along at around 1250 fps, not sure.
I do know if you miss with this gun & the red dot it ain't the guns fault. I've been carrying it around for a couple of weeks now in the Barranti NorthWest Hunter, carries nice & for a long barrel its very easy to pack.

Here's a little closer shot of the mounted red dot using the Edge Custom, no drill mounts, they work great, just like on my 357 Maxie.

That little 3 shot group at 25 yds was one of 3 different ones that were almost exactly the same, only difference was the other 2 weren't quite centered. The group measured .345", I'm liking this gun!

Couple of scenry shots for everyone.

These 2 beavers were enjoying the cool evening, they were very playful.

There were a couple of miles of beaver ponds along this road.

My bench setup.

My buddy Brent was dialing in his Kimber 270 maggie, lucky guy drew a Nevada elk tag!

On this range we can shoot steel out to 1200 yds.

Great photos!! Keep them coming, Dick. With the 100 degree plus weather we've been having, I've about convienced the wife we need to spend summers in Idaho. :)

Sixshot, Do you put your revolvers barrel on the rest.... or the frame of the revolver? I have heard both ways and wondered how you were doing it. Thanks in advance.

Zac, the scope is going to be just fine, thanks! Do I send the stocks to the address on the box, I think thats what you wanted.

Don, I do rest the barrel on the MTM pistol holder, the top of it is quite forgiving & it works with this one. If I'm getting vertical stringing then I just push the frame against the rest with no barrel tension. It just takes some experimenting to see what works the best.
I never let the grips touch the rest, I nestle the gun in my hands just like I would if I were shooting offhand & let the bottom of my hands touch the rest, nothing else.
Here's a better photo of the 3 shot group at 25 yds, benched. I shot a group about like this a few years ago with Tyrone's Vaquero, only it was 5 shots with irons.

Dick, I can see that sixgun isnt going to work out for you. Go on ahead and just send it back.....

Thanks again sixshot. That's really a good group.... no doubt about that!

Dick: would you tell me more about the mount on the 44? I might do that with a Blackhawk 45 or a Maxie.
Beautiful country ! Might have to get in my truck and come visit!

Funny, that gun never shot that well for Fermin . Must be your loads, Dick  .

No, Fermin said it was a tack driver ! He just couldn't wear that gun with a belt holster, on account of it dragging on the ground with that 10.5" barrel  .

Like that winchester :!: great pictures this old Ala-- bam born and raised redneck would love to make a trip like that one, great views ,guns, shooting, badger another fine posting--that longgggg barrel handgun is a real critter getter 8)

Great pics! I just bought a Millet red dot to try on my SBH Bisley Hunter (.44 mag) and it really allows you to exercise the accuracy potential, repeatedly, of Ruger's 44s. Mine, however, appears to be having dot issues, and it looks like it will have to go back for repair.

I like these short red dot scopes because they are very lightweight, give you an easy, consistent aiming point, and don't make the gun unwieldy to carry or holster.

Where in Alabama does your son reside?

Fred, that no drill mount is made by Edge Custom, Bill, the owner is a very good guy & his mounts work on any of the big recoiling Rugers. Takes about 10 minutes to mount one, very neat design. The one on my 357 Maxie has been rock solid for 3-4 years now, I've taken 3 deer with that setup.

My son was in Huntsville, now he's in Mobile & will be there until the end of July, he does the surveying for structural concrete projects, mostly at Nucore steel mills.

As always, nice shooting Dick!
That Vaquero is still in the safe, and it still shoots. However, as we BOTH know, it shot to the left. I've had that corrected a bit! :D
