My pastor told this story yesterday:

A young couple at my church were expecting a baby. She had had a rather hard time during her pregnancy, and the time for birth was near. She was at the hospital, and labor was not going too well. The doctor was ready to do a cesarean section, and right now.

"Just give us one more hour to pray," asked the family. The doctor agreed to this and they gathered in the waiting room and began to pray. About forty-five minutes later the doctor appeared.

"You are not going to believe this," he began.

"Yes, we will," the family replied.

The baby was born without complications, mother, and family are fine.

Reminds me of what happened to a close friend of mine. His wife was giving birth, when the doctor handed the baby boy to the nurses he quickly made some gestures and they took the baby away. My friend got up and followed them out. The Dr said something was wrong and they needed to do a quick scan. He went in and told his wife everything was ok and then came back out. The Dr came back a short while later and told him they were doing emergency surgery and showed him the x-ray that showed his esophagus was completely disconnected from his stomach. He said the surgeon was on his way in. He called another friend of ours, a pastor who was close by to come and anoint his son. He also called his sister to come. The pastor was there before the surgeon and went in to pray for the boy. When he tells the story he always laughs and says it was, "the worst prayer I've ever prayed'. Something to the tune of "Lord this is beyond me but please fix this child." The whole time my friend would not tell his wife what was going on, he didn't want her to worry. The surgeon was there shortly after and prepped for surgery and wanted another scan before going in. My friend, the pastor and his sister were all waiting when the surgeon and Dr came back out with both scans. The Surgeon just shook his head and said, "His esophagus and stomach are fine. You don't need me" The Dr told him he doesn't know what happened but both scans were clear. They weren't connected and now they are. He took his son home a couple days later, now I think he's about 13. He told his wife what happened a little later that night.

At about three my daughter developed alopecia. We were told that she would lose every hair on her body and to buy a wig. I was at work and a black man that I worked with was a preacher on the side. He never seen her but said he would pray for her. I quipped, "Better say two, it`s bad". He said, no, one prayer will do it. I went home from work, (graveyard) and my ex wife was getting her ready to go wig shopping. She said there seems to be a little fuzz here that I didn't see yesterday. Daughter was already bald as a cue ball on top and sort of looked like Friar Tuck.
My ex wife at THAT time wasn't religious and I just told her not to go wig shopping today. She already had been shopping around. She was puzzled but didn't question me. Starting that day my daughter got a fine head of hair! That would be 35 years ago.

When my daughter was born, she couldn't hold anything down, so at a day old they did and upper and lower GI series and discovered thought that it was a blockage. When the operated that night, they discovered it wasn't a blockage but that not only was there a gap in her small intestine where it ended and then restarted, but also places where it was as flat as a straw with all the air sucked out; (Today its called Illeal Atresians); I don't know how many resections they did, but she lost about a third of her small intestine, spent 13 days in the ICU and then had to be fed a special "pre-digested" formula (what a pain to heat and strain lumps from); chocolate and other sweets would give her "velocity poops". That was all almost 45 years ago; Now she is a healthy woman , although ONLY 5' 1" tall.
Thank You God for letting my daughter and first born live.

My new grand daughter could use some prayers. She's about four months old and has something similar to MD. Floppy baby syndrome I think is what they call it. We are all praying that she will be better. My daughter had three miscarraiges prior to this baby's birth. She's such a cute little baby it breaks our hearts to think she's likely never to walk or hold her head up.
