I'm familiar with the rubberized "tool dip" you speak of.
I've had it loosen and sorta peel off of plier handles after a lot of use.
I'm perty-sure that I wouldn't want to chance pieces of it flying back at me as my high-velocity oprod slams to an abrupt halt in front of my face and eyes.
But that's just me.
