mini 14 ranch rear and 1022

Will the peep insert for mini14 ranch rear sight fit a 1022 rear sight? You know, the flat piece held in by 2 screws? Or are dovetails and sight height the same to swap entire sight? (would much rather just loosen screws and swap flat pieces...)

Did it work with factory front? My current rear insert low in sight also.

Not sure yet, I haven't sighted in the irons yet, but if I need a taller or shorter front sight, I'll order up a fiber optic firesight.

Yeah, That's the Mini-14 aperture blade that I opened up with a drill press and touched up the bare steel with cold blue. You have to open it up to use it that far out on the barrel.

Interesting idea, I, too, have used the tech sights for the 10/22 as I prefer a peep sight when I use open sights, but this would certainly be a less expensive option.

Hey, guys. Sorry so slow getting back. Just got the insert delivered today! Very slow delivery, but it is here! Note that I started down this road because the rifle is composed of 3 rifles, including a receiver with stripped out rear scope mount holes that ain't re-tapped in line. I'd have to open up holes in anything to go back there (I did fix the factory base to werk)... Anyway, spending real money on this one ain't happnin'!!! Don't like the way the front sight sits so low in the rear sight, so thought I'd try this. Thanks for the bit size. It looks good in yours. I'll let ya'll know how badly I bugger it up!

Shot it today. Fanfreakintastic, almost. Wind blew over all 3 target stands at least once. It was howling. Still had more 1 inch groups than 2 inch groups at 50yds from rest. Off hand: very quick acquisition and less wobble than w/optics. And it hit!

BUT:

Was hoping for a cover hold with front bead. With rear sight all the way down and covering target w/front bead, it was 1 1/2-2 inches high. Centering the bead in the peep with a 6 oclock hold at front bead makes my life too complicated.

Anyone out there who can tell me how much taller than factory my front sight needs to be? Call it a 15 inch sight radius. Keep in mind I'd also like to raise the insert up a little off the bottom of adjustment range....

it is a triangle ratio thing with
A = Impact change wanted
B = Range
C = Sight radius
D = Sight change need
Given
A/B = C/D
then
D = (A/B) X C

example
2 inches at 50 yards (1800") for a 15" sight radius
(2/1800) X 15 = 0.017"

Just a final word: Added a Marble 450 mr front sight to get desired poi with insert in middle of adjustment range. Turned a 7 dollar project into a 30 dollar project and fitting the sight involved some work. Still, I like it!
