Mini 14 price question ?

Hello everyone.... I am a new forum member. Glad to have found this site, you all have some very good info on all that is Ruger.

I am considering buying a Mini 14 NIB from the early 80's. A friend bought it and has never shot it, i believe it has been a safe queen since then. He wants some new toys and i said i would take it. He wants $700 for it. It has a wood stock with the all weather barrel and receiver plus the 5 rnd mag and a 40 rnd stainless mag. Here are a couple of pic's. From the reaserch i've done it seems like an OK deal. Please let me know what you all think ?

frankly, altho you have committed to take it, I suggest you shop Auction Arms and Gunbroker auction sites to search on similar available Mini's. This is a Ranch Model, yet it seems a bit (or more) higher than what I have seen in the recent past. JMO.........

I think you should take it. It is a little high, but you already said you would buy it. To me, it's not worthing reneging on my word to save a few bucks.

Thanks, i have seen some for less on gun broker but when you factor in the cost of shipping and FFL fee ontop of the prices it comes out pretty much a wash and i know how well this has been taken care of.
Also has the factory Ruger scope rings w/ it.

I've wanted a Ranch rifle for a few years now and if it costs a little more but helps out a friend to get what he wants also then it don't get better then that.

You can get a new 581 series for around $600. Do some research before you buy. kwg

600 + shipping + taxes + FFL fees + 250 rounds of ammo + extra magazine probably adds up to something over 700. I gather this is a face to face transaction not involving paper work, which I strongly approve. Then the friendship factor (he has already been generous with you) is priceless. Your word is your bond. DO IT and enjoy your new toy! Jack

the only questionable part is the NIB... but that really does not matter. Also, don't expect that 40 round mag to work well... but you never can tell, it might....

yep... after range trip, the gun works great... the 5 rnd mag worked fine but the 40 rnders not so great... any ways to get them to feed better ? any help will be much appreciated.

I think you did fine.

As far as the 40 round mag goes, I think I would just ditch it and get some Ruger factory 20 and 30 rounders. They have always worked for me, and there is nothing more aggravating than a balky magazine.

I have a buddy that has sent two min-14's to them that are real tack drivers now.

I have two mini-14's that are the newer models and shoot ok as is, but if I wanted better accuracy id send it in to these guys no doubt.

Nice lookin' gun by the way, I also have a stainless / wood and think it looks sweet albeit a little heavy.
