A lot depends on where you live. We do a lot of small parcel shipping at work, and it's not uncommon to see a 2-3 lb residential delivery package with about $18.00 in UPS charges. UPS has "extended delivery areas" charges that can really shock you sometimes. Fedex is the same way. Plain old Parcel Post, or even First Class Mail is usually the most economical. Many businesses don't like using the Postal Service because of some of the special restrictions, and they'll be heavily fined if they screw up and accidentally send something potentially hazardous through the mail. Often times, it's not worth the risk.
