I always talk with my daughter at night just before going to bed. Last night she asked me to describe my day in every small detail.

I started out just in general, taking the car in to get the oil changed etc. But she wanted to know all the details.

Then it got interesting. I’m actually amazed at all the minor details I remembered. Things I must have seen but didn’t consciously pay attention too. Like the messy floor in the produce dept at Wal Mart. Or the minor details when I took the dog for a walk.

It kind of shocked me being able to subconsciously recall those details. Probably a good brain activity too.

What a pleasant post! A conversation with your daughter at bedtime.

And, sort of plucks my heartstrings, too. Brings back some memories.

Thanks for sharing that.

I have memories as a kid, not so much yesterday. They don't take me out much anymore.

I often walk in a room to get something, get there and have to think what I came in for. My biggest problem is trying to recall a persons name I well knew and worked with many years ago. It`s like if I try to recall I get a mental block but if I am not making a project of it, it comes right up. My dad died with alzheimer at 90 and that does worry me some. It worries my wife a lot about me maybe because she is close to seventeen years my junior.

In general I have a very good memory. For example I can remember a string of numbers pretty easily, but for some reason I can’t remember names either. I get nervous going to dinner parties where I have to remember names. I think that’s a different talent. My wife is very good with names.

I call that multitasking. When I do this,I just start doing something else until I remember what I went in for. I can get a lot done this way.

Cool post, Kevin. I remember telling bedtime stories I made up to my now 37 year old daughter. She was just starting to communicate well, maybe 3 years old? The stories were about a deer named Daisy from the Smokies. She'd want every detail. I'd talk as her eyelids got heavier and heavier.

Good times for sure. You did well! :)

Have a buddy that complained to his Dr that he was forgetting to zip up after going to the restroom. The Dr said not to worry till it gets to the point of forgetting to zip down!

"My biggest problem is trying to recall a persons name I well knew"

There have been times I talked to someone I knew for several minutes before actually recalling their name.
The more stressed I get, the harder I find it to recall things. I hope I can work another 5 years before having to give up since much of what I do requires detailed recall.

The bad thing about a good memory is you remember people and things you'd rather forget.

Well, as they say, you can hide your own easter eggs and you keep meeting new friends!

I can remember bout any numbers including combination locks from years ago as well as anything I have seen place wise. Names...…. they come to me eventually..
Grocery list no way. I was asked lately about money spent on material for the last 5 years! I figure I got 98% right. Who can remember every detail about work.
Nice story! Been spending time with mother, son and daughter a lot lately due to mom's health. My memory from age of about 2 is intact according to my mother.
Send me to the store to buy one item and I will not come back with it.
Not sure remembering is a great thing as my head is full of pert near useless stuff.

I might post on hearing, the good vs the bad.

Hi...
Wouldn't worry about intermittent memory lapses.
I have never been able to remember names of people that I only see now and then...probably because I don't like most people very much.
At 64 years old and having had two strokes and a mother who passed away from Alzheimer's, I do worry about dementia and Alzheimer's.

My memory of past events is quite excellent and I very rarely forget anything other than names.

Sounds like the joke about how a grand-daughter was so impressed that the grandfather had so many pet names for his wife. When she commented about it he looked sheepish and told her he had forgotten her name two years earlier and didn't have the nerve to ask her what it was.

My best tip for remembering things that suddenly escape me is to and relax and forget about it.
Honestly, put it out of your mind and it will come to you.
Or as well known use something unique about that person.
For example one of our antique gun dealers has a mustache that looks like aluminum. His name is Joe Reynolds, like the foil we use.
David Bowling wears a leather vest with a small "300" pin on it.
Officer Wagner is usually pointing his finger at something.
My best friend is 80. Years ago he introduced me to his pals from the police force. It's sad that he has to ask me what their names are though he knows their face and their time/stories on the force. Would help me a lot if he wore his dadgum hearing aids. If he sees something he wants or talks to someone I have to be there because he can hear me. I reckon that makes me a service person for him and my mother.
Reckon I can get a government check for that?
Love em to death and will be their for them as long as I'm alive and can do it.
Spent part of today loading their meds in weekly/am/pm meds to take boxes, do it every Sat.

My memory is getting a little weak. The wife and I were having dinner at a friend’s house. After a good meal we were chatting after the women went to their  kitchen to get dessert. We were sharing stories of great restaurants we’d been to recently and Fred asked me the name of one I had just described. I searched my brain and couldn’t recall it, so I asked Fred the name of that flower that had thorns on it. He stated that “why I think that’s a Rose.”
So then I shouted to the kitchen, “Rose, where did we eat out last week”.

I don’t talk to my daughter that often. Not that we don’t speak to one another. We just are on different schedules an rarely “connect”. I’ve got to change that.
