I’d misplace my head if it wasn’t attached.
Ya sound like my motherYou all are missing the good part of misplacing stuff. First if it's short term there is the triumphant feeling when you find it. If it's long term it's Christmas morning when you find it.
So just consider losing stuff as a pleasant surprise waiting to happen.
The items besides some supplements the head doctor suggested was to stop or slow down on alcohol and it seems nicotine is bad for the brain... at least according to him... this depressed me for about 2 weeks and then I thought of Mark Twain and Sam Fuller who pretty much smoked cigars and drank most of their lives and seemed to have done pretty dern good and so I started back sitting on my front porch most nights with a glass of bourbon and a cigar.
I'll take that as a compliment. My eldest sis often says I sound like my mom. Then again, my mom was the epitome of the hard headed old German woman. Practical and blunt in all things. She did not brook nonsense as my butt can attest.Ya sound like my mother
I had the same thing happened a couple weeks ago. Getting my wife ready to go anywhere is a challenge. Due to the strokes she is 'interesting' to get out of the house and into the car. I was two blocks from the house when I realized that I didn't have my hat. I felt naked until we got back home.I went to the store last Wednesday for some milk. Forgot my hat. I NEVER forget my hat. But I did not forget my underwear so I took that as a win![]()

I have had that type of memory since I was a kid, it always came back, and comes back, at some point. If you can't remember something that you were sure you used to know, but it later comes back to you (minutes, hours, days or even weeks later) then it is not Alzheimers or a related dementia disorder, but just the aging process. If it never comes back, ie. the memory is lost forever, then it might well be Alzheimers. If you are worried about it, the first step should be to see your primary care physician who can refer you to appropriate resources if such are needed. There are drugs that work for some folks in slowing down the losses, but sadly there is not yet any cure for these conditions.
Not to boast, but i actually understand the process as describedI have discovered that the easiest way to lose something is to put it in a “safe place”.
I have also found that I have the tendency to set whatever tool I’m working with down when I need to get something else. The problem is I carry that tool to wherever the part is. Example: I need a longer grip screw. I carry my screwdriver over to the closet where I keep my screw assortment. I need to pull out one of the trays that has screws- so I set the screwdriver down on the closest flat area. I find the screw I need, replace the tray, and walk back to the desktop where I have the project. I sit down and realize that I no longer have the screwdriver. Usually it’s a quick process to retrace my steps unless somewhere in between I’ve decided to visit the bathroom or make something to eat. Then that screwdriver, and maybe the screw too, could be anywhere.
Maybe a supplement will help. A friend at deer camp years ago was excited to take Ginkgo Biloba. For memory heath.
Next time I saw him I inquired how it was going? He said “Not good I keep forgetting to take it!”
I found my car keys in the freezer!
I have to take full blame. I will have something in my hand and five minutes later it is gone. I'm worried about that "old timers" disease as it's called in WV.Any little kids around you can blame it on?
My son would do things like that to me. One time I found my glasses in the VCR.
I do know of some cases where doctors were leery of doing surgery on smokers due to nicotine use (think it was more of an ortho and smokeless tobacco use when I had heard of it). I don’t understand why.Sorry larry8, I appreciate your concern and advice but at this point in time in my life I'm pretty sure it aint gonna happen. I'm actually having a little problem with your doctor's evaluation anyway... it seems the medical community groups all 'smoking' into one... I'll admit I could be wrong but there is a big difference at least in my limited and prejudiced opinion between smoking and inhaling cigarettes and smoking an occasional cigar. On top of that here's a weird example... young, probably mid 40's, neighbor died last year of lung cancer... he never smoked a day in his life..... but then the way the medical community looks at it it was probably my fault ... he got some of the second hand smoke from me on my porch when he walked his dog by.
Also, a doctor that would refuse to 'treat' me because I smoke the occasional cigar? They'd get fired anyway.... I thought they took an oath that pretty much does not allow that?
