Wasn't there just a thread about Mec Gar magazines? I thought so but couldn't find it. My question is what does everyone think of them? I'm thinking of a CZ 9mm and it comes with some Mec Gar magazines.

Do you like them or hate them?

I've had good luck with them in Mini 14 and 1911 formats. Love or hate? Neither - they have functioned well for me, and are reasonably priced.

Hi,

Kevin, I asked about Mec-Gar .22 mags for the Mk II in the Rimfire forum a couple of weeks back... dunno if that's the one you're thinking of.

Personal experience: the center fire mags I've tried (CZ-75B, 9mm) have lived up to their claim of being the world's finest magazines. The mags for the Kadet .22 conversion kit I use with that same pistol aren't branded, but I understand they may well be Mec-Gars as well. They've been flawless.

OTOH, I haven't tried one in my Mk II, but a buddy bought one several years ago for his, and our last trip to the desert at New Year's was its last. He'd fussed, fiddled, filed and finagled with it and never could get it to work. It finally frustrated him to the point he ended up throwing it into the rocks with a great deal of force and a similar amount of pleasure!

I've heard some sketchy reports about the Mk II mags over the years, and reading the reviews at a couple of vendor sites it would appear there are still problems with that particular series... from the comments, it seems they're a love-hate thing with no middle ground.

Yes, that is the one. I went to their website and saw they make them for the Mark II then I remembered where I read the post. Well nice. The pistol in question is a CZ75 with three additional 16 round MEC GAR magazines, so five total. Sweet. I'll post some pictures of the gun when I get it. I can see a .22 rimfire magazine being more finicky than a larger centerfire pistol.

Thanks for the fast replies!

Pretty sure they make the mags for the LCP, or at least did for the early ones. Mine are all marked "Made in Italy." Good quality stuff.

Mecgar makes makes the "factory" magazines for many of the world's pistol manufacturers.
They should be as good as any you can buy.

Holy Cow! I didn't know that at all. Sometimes aftermarket parts are iffy. Well at least I seem to have problems with aftermarket stuff. This is nice to know. I didn't know they are such a big company.

Over the years I have shot a lot of different semi-autos. While I love the P220 and P229, it's the P226 that I carry for social work. All my Sig OEM .40 caliber P226 magazines are roll marked "Sig Sauer" on the port side and "Mec Gar Made in Italy" on the starboard side. I have yet to see any that are any better.

I have 2 CZ 75s. A CZ 75B Stainless and a CZ 75 SP01 tactical. Both of these guns included Mec Gar magazines, new from the factory. The stainless had flush fitting 16 round magazines. But the SP01 had 18 round mags.

I ordered 4 addl. magazines for each gun. Just the mec-gar flush fitting 16 rounders.

Outstanding guns.
Hope you enjoy your CZs as much as I do.

Love my Sig P220SL, P226 Elite Enhanced, and P227. See other thread for details.

Bought a Kahr CW45 a couple years ago, but have never liked their standard 6 round magazines with the thick plastic baseplate that sticks out of the grip about 1/4" - not cool for concealment.

So a few weeks ago I bought a MecGar 1911 .45 Officer's 6 round mag - nice quality - Dremeled the feed lips just a hair, and it fits & feeds like a charm & locks back on empty:

I have 5 med Gar 18 rd fuch fit mags for my pt92 and 1 17 rd for my early production p 95 and they all work flawlessly + their priced right.
