Where were you on May 8, 1945? I was a young lad, listening to the radio when news bulletins kept comin in fast and furious. Adolph Hitler was dead. The Germans had surrendered. The War in Europe was over.
Women came out of their houses to share any news. My Mother wept, as did many more women, at the thought that their husbands or sons were safe and would not have to go. A couple of women stood silently, weeping gently, their husband or son had already paid the ultimate price.
We stayed glued to the radio. My brother was safe and would not come home for awhile as he was on occupation duty.
