Just received this from the MD Natural Resources.
"Maryland deer hunters harvested 84,201 deer during the combined archery, firearms, and muzzleloader seasons, from Sept. 6, 2024 through Feb. 4, 2025.
The statewide harvest reported to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources included 32,148 antlered and 47,271 antler-less white-tailed deer, and 2,143 antlered and 2,639 antler-less Sika deer. The harvest was 15.9% higher than the 2023-2024 total of 72,642 deer and 10.4% higher than the 5-year average of 76,272."

MD bag limits are generous and will keep you fed throughout fall, winter, into spring and summer. When I was actively hunting up until a couple seasons ago there was never a lack of venison backstraps to throw over coals during summer cook outs......with all the development going on the deer are basically being corralled into small areas. I can recall as a kid riding dirt bikes and hunting in a lot of places that are huge industrial areas now. Hunt Valley being one of them. You rarely saw deer in that area...now the smallest woodlots around there hold a lot of deer and the road kills are everywhere. I small farm I hunt in Union Bridge is surrounded by more and more development each year. The deer are pushed into the remaining farms. It's almost like fish in a barrel at times.....not healthy for them either.

“Reported kills” was 205,759 deer harvested in Virginia during the 24/25 season. This year's total included 101,238 antlered bucks, 665 bucks that had shed their antlers, 13,019 button bucks, and 90,837 does (44.1%). Bedford Co. had the highest number of kills at 7644, Augusta was second place with 5719. Bedford has had the highest recorded deer kills of any county in the state for the last 10-15 years maybe longer, usually run 3rd or 4th in bear and turkey.

I had to look up Maine's 2024 deer season and was surprised to see we only harvested 42,258 which is just below the 2022 record of 43,787. Hard to believe with an estimated herd total of 320k according to IFW.
