MarkI magazine question

Tried a search and came up with nothing. I have had my MarkI since new in the late 70s. Yes, I know that is telling my age. Anyway this is an ongoing problem that I have learned to deal with, but still raises it's ugly head from time to time. Those who are familiar with the MarkI know that the magazine latch is on the bottom of the grip. When I insert a magazine sometimes the latch will catch on the first round in the magazine and kick it up resulting in the first round not feeding properly when the magazine is fully seated.

I have found that if I insert the magazine at a little bit of an angle and then sort of rotate it into the channel, it seems to minimize this from happening. Still happens from time to time.

Is there a fix for this? Either a mod to the gun, or procedure that works better than what I am currently doing.

It does. Depending on the vintage of the MKI you may have to turn the button on the MKII magazine to the other side. As long as the buttons are on the same side, the MKII mags work just fine. The only thing I found on mine, is that the MKII sometimes wants to hang up on the magazine catch on the butt on the way out, as there is a little notch lower on the MKII than on the MKI, so I put an extended mag release in my MKI so you hold the latch back a bit longer and this fixed the hang up. The MKII mags are an improvement and hold one more round.

when feeding in a 'new magazine', use the top back edge of the magazine to push against and move back, the magazine catch at the bottom of the gun, then slightly tilt (tip) the magazine from back to front as it goes up and into the channel,,,,,this works on most of the European style bottom mag catch guns,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,keeps the 'tip' of the ammo away from the bottom front of the magazine well
