Mark IV Competition Trigger

I have a Mark IV Competition that I only have about 4 to 5 hundred rounds through. The trigger is getting a little better, but is still inadequate. Is there anything I can try short of buying a complete Volquartsen Trigger assembly kit? ...

First off, let me say that I don't have any personal experience with using the Volquartsen internals for the MK series pistols.

That said, I've read many posts from folks who claim to have had good success in their MKIIs by using just the Volquartsen sear. The sear is available by itself, at a fraction of the cost of the whole Accurizing Kit.

Perhaps the results aren't quite as good as using the whole Accurizing Kit, but it's commonly asserted that the sear by itself goes a long way toward improving trigger pull.

Volquartsen's website shows their sear fitting both the MKII and MKIV pistols. If the same part fits both guns, I would think that the results would be similar in both guns.

A search on RugerForum.com or RimfireCentral.com should show some testimonials from users of just the Volquarten sear.

I did just a Volquartsen sear change on 5 MKII pistols. They were just a straight change according to manufacturer's instructions with no additional part changes or modifications. Trigger was much better in each case although trigger pull results were slightly different. Trigger pull measured with trigger weights after the change were three at 2.25 - 2.50 (would lift 2.25 but not 2.5) pounds. The trigger pull on remaining two was less the 2 pounds. There was no way, by this method, to make the switch to specific pull weight. Was not a problem for me but some competition rules require a minimum 2.0 trigger pull weight.

Volquartsen's parts, and reputation speak for themselves, and most savvy folks know that. I've never seen a Russian Space Movie, and can't see myself ever standing in line to see one either. If all the Volquartsen parts in this pistol look "Russian", well, Volquartsen was putting out aftermarket parts long before Majestic Arms ever started.
