Mark II parts

When I shoot my Mark II (made in 1983), the bolt locks back after the last round is fired, but when I remove the magazine, the bolt often slides forward. Is this normal behavior?

The bolt stop assembly is slightly rounded off where it contacts the bolt.

It also does not always lock the bolt back when the magazine is removed.

I called Ruger and they want me to send the old part in to them so they can decide whether or not it needs to be exchanged.

Will they charge me for the part? Is there anywhere to just but one?

Yes, that's normal. The magazine follower button is what activates the bolt stop assembly by pushing that part up to catch the bolt on its forward motion. When you drop the empty magazine, the bolt should continue to be held back. Then, when you insert a fresh magazine with 10 rounds, you can "sling-shot" the bolt and chamber another round. The bolt stop assembly is fairly hard, so filing the face that meets the bolt would need to be done with a diamond needle file, or, if you have a stationary belt sander, you can dress the face that contacts the bolt, flat/straight once again.

The remainder would be precisely answered with a call to Ruger.
We would be forced to guess.

Your last question I'll take to actually be "anywhere to just "buy" one,
and suggest Brownell's.

Except the one on the exploded view drawing in the manual and the part I ordered look nothing like the part in the pistol.

There is one type for the Mark II and one for the 22/45. Are you sure you're looking at the bolt stop assembly?

After looking at things more closely, it DOES look like the drawing in the exploded view and the one from Brownells looks ALMOST like it. I'll find out soon.

Ruger no longer differentiates bolt stop assemblies between Mark II & III. Replacements will involve those that are used with the Ruger Mark III pistols with the steel grip frame. The 22/45 Zytel grip frames still have their own fashion.
