Mark II Breech Face Damage

First off, hello RugerForums World! Sorry my first post is a cry for advice, but here goes:

I have screwed up royally! Something stupid happened, and I let the firing pin stop pin fall out of the bolt during reassembly of my most accurate Mark II pistol, and guessed who dry-fired it!?!? Repeatedly? This moron...

Can a gunsmith with a lathe fix my issue, can I file it down myself w/o borking the chamber, or do I plan on sending this puppy back to Ruger for repair? If so, does anybody from Sturm, Ruger haunt these forums that could advise me where to send it to, and if possible who?

Cap'n, thanks! do they have any bushings out there that one could use in the rear of the receiver to make sure I'm not obturating the chamber wall?

Dan, I'm busier than a one-armed paper hanger, maybe this weekend I can figure out how to take a picture of the damaged area. It's going to have to be a picture through the ejection port or something... I'll see what I can do.

If the ding is too bad to fix, you could sell the lower frame assembly. These sometimes sell for as much or more than the complete gun, depending on the model. The lower frame assembly by itself does not have to go through an FFL, so it would be pretty easy to sell.

got your 'PM' and let you know there are number of ways to 'correct' the issue, but as I noted, gotta 'see" what we are dealing with,cannot be any worse than some of them I've seen over the years, ALL makes and models of rimfires............just gotta clean it up to make sure it feeds and functions, and yes, please put the bolt pin back in the gun.... :wink:

I'm not sure that any are commercially available. A 'smith might be able to turn one out though.

Ok, some pics:

You can see the damage counterclockwise from the extractor cutout sort of 'underneath' (from this angle) the recoil spring guide.

Also, I picked up one of those chamber ironing tools. Does the little sucker come with instructions or am I on a path to disaster without additional tools?

we sent you an e-mail, that is NOT that bad, seen LOTS worse, the tool will work for you but so much simpler and cheaper aand easier to just use a tapered Sears punch and do the job,......been doing this since the late60's......they had NO tools like that, the armorers taught us how to make our own tools and jigs...................
