Mark I mag release

My aging and somewhat arthritic thumbs find it hard to hold the mag release back especially when it snags between the base and the case. Is there a simple modification that can help?

He asked about a Mk I release, that is for a Mk I I. Don't know if it may need some modification.

Call majestic arms ad ask for their extended mag released for the Mk I. It drops in and works. $23.95 8)

Brownells has them for the Mark II for $9.99 for the blued and $12.99 for the stainless, Ram Line made one in polymer at one time, they show up on amazon and ebay from time to time for about $5.00. You may need to enlarge the pivot pin holes in them slightly but they work great.

I had one(don't remember the brand) on an older MK1 but sold that pistol years back. IIRC, It was OK for casual or range use but cost me a lost magazine when I bumped the lever while the pistol was holstered and released the mag in the field.

An extended magazine release for the Ruger Mark II will work just fine in the Ruger Mark I and Standard pistols, no "modification" necessary, and I do recommend that one of those be used instead of the factory latch/release when using the newer style Mark II type magazines.
The original latch/release works just dandy with the solid, non-removable base plate magazines, but the smaller radius on the working end of those releases gets hung up in the gap between the base and magazine body:

I don't believe Volquartsen offers extended magazine releases any longer for the Ruger Mark II pistols as I can recall seeing those in the "clearance" section of their web-site.

Here, I only use and sell the Ranch Products releases in both black and stainless steel.

To understand aging fingers and arthritis/painful loss of dexterity - I have the Majestic Arms release http://www.majesticarms.com/id21.html on a couple pistols and have for years, and it simply works! I've never dropped a mag inadvertently. Of course I don't use plastic bases either. I have always opined the factory catch works best with metal-to-metal interaction. Similar to any heel-catch release on centerfire pistols. With heel-release mags it is always a good idea to inspect the mag contact area for a square, defined engagement with the catch.
