Mark I feed issue

I managed to pick up a couple of K of Winchester .22lr. These are the bulk pack hollow points. My daughter is having trouble with a fair percentage of them sticking on the feed ramp. The sharp edge of the feed ramp is catching almost in the middle of the point.

Since .22s are so hard to come by, I would like for my daughter to be able to use them.

I have thought about gently polishing up the feed ramp, and perhaps ever so slightly easing the sharp edge of the ramp.

Any easy solutions to this problem, or is it just the nature of the beast?

The Winchester bulk hollow points tend to be finicky in a lot of guns. I wouldn't change anything on the gun, it would be a permanent change to solve a temporary problem. Have you tried different magazines?

IF THE CARTRIDGE IS FEEDING LOW it is a magazine problem with the particular brand and style of ammunition. This is one reason I like six or eight magazines per gun as one of 'em will do 'em all up in fine style feeding like phtttttttt through a goose.

Switch to MKII magazines and your problem might just solve itself. Happened for me. Joe

I think my LGS has Mark II mags in stock. I will pick one up if they do. I assume they will fit my Mark, it is a later model. Bought it new in 76 or 77. The one mag I have is the original that came with it in the 70s. Never had a problem before, never needed a second mag until now.

Good news is I think they will run through my old Colt Challenger. My daughter didn't like it as much as the Ruger when she first started shooting, but I might need to have her give it a second try if I can't get these to run through the Mark. I only have about 1900 of them left.

Otherwise, I might be able to trade them to someone who has another brand.

I would hate to have to buy a .22 revolver just to be able to run these. :wink:

The M-10 magazines will work in your A-100 framed Mark1/Standard, the overall external dimensions are the same in the two mag body styles. Some pistols have had issues with the follower buttons in the later M-10 mags, as the newer ones have a slightly larger diameter follower button. The newer mags have a different style of feed lips than your original M-9 magazine does and these are a little better at feeding hollowpoints.

WHAT...YOU DO NOT HAVE A 22 REVOLVER ???!!! That is un-American and may well be illegal in most states. YOU go get this problem taken care of right now. NOW you hear me ?!! Daughter and I went to the range today. They didn't have any Mark II mags. They had an aftermarket that fit, but Winchesters wouldn't feed at all with it. They did feed fine through the old Colt. Daughter ran about a 100 through it. She doesn't like it as well as the Mark, but didn't dislike it either.
