Mags for a Mark 1?

I recently bought a Ruger Mark 1 target w/bull barrel.

Can this use any mags other than those specified for the Mark 1? Such as Mark 2 or 3?

Also, is there any kit to lock back the bolt on the Mark 1 (after the last shot is fired)?

Finally, does the Mark 1 break down the same as the Mark 2 and 3? The vid I watched on breaking it down shows the bolt locking back in that gun.

I'm no MKI expert but I think the MKI mags are specific. (MKII, MKIII and 22/45 mags won't work) Further, there may be 2 different grip frames on those that each require a different mag.

Others will surely be along shortly to correct me if I've screwed that up.

I don't know about the lock back question.

About a disassembly, there's no reason to do that but, others will surely disagree.

I have always been under the impression that you must use Mark I mags. I know the later IIIs have a different mag release system. My Mark I does not have auto lock back with empty mag.

Mk I mags have the loading button on the right side and the Mk II are on the left side. The button on the Mk II mag can be switched to the right side for use on the Mk I, remove the base plate and the button will lower enough to be removed and switched to other side. I think Mk III mag can be used in Mk I if button is switched or in Mk II without switching, only difference in Mk III mag is catch on front for the new style mag release. I don't know of any kit to hold Mk I bolt open, but break down for Mk I and Mk II is the same. I have used Mk II mags in all of my Mk I and Mk II pistols with no problems, the Mk I mags hold 9 rounds and the Mk II mags hold 10 rounds.

........ MKI magazines are readily available.

Then why hasn't ShopRuger sent me the one I ordered in early January. Got the email that my order was placed and nothing since. If they would ever answer their phone I'd cancel my order!

I just ordered two from them and they said the backorder was five to six weeks. They are, however, about half as expensive as any that are available elsewhere. That's why I went ahead and ordered.
