magazine storage

Hey on my P95 it holds 15 rounds in the magazine. If I am going to store my gun for some time is it okay to leave it full with 15 OR should I just keep 10 in there?

From what I've heard numerous times on the internet... it doesn't matter... the springs are weakened by their movement not while they are compressed...

You can store them fully loaded and be fine. I suspect that it will degrade their strength, but the time it will take is longer than we will care.

There was a huge thread on this in the past week or so. Bottom line: it does not matter at all.

I suspect it actually helps them some.... dern P mags are tight.

It's worth checking on them from time to time. While it's true that ideally springs don't weaken from being left compressed, it's not always true that the ideal case is a good model for the real world.

To be fully accurate one needs to qualify the statement somewhat--like this:

Well-made springs in good condition that have been constructed from high-quality materials and in a magazine that's designed not to overcompress the springs when fully loaded won't weaken if the magazine is left fully loaded.

GET, JMHO.....

When I started with semi- auto handguns, and rifles(1981)....I used to rotate my mags.

But I was a newbie then....

Almost 30 years later.....
I learned from TRIAL and ERROR.....

Buy FACTORY MAGS!
NEVER had a problem with RUGER factory mags,that had been compressed for years.
That actually applies to COLT and SW FACTORY mags too.

I do think mags from PROMAG...and USA...this could be a problem.
I trashed my USA mags years ago....still own some Promags for my Rugers...fine for the range, but would not trust my life with!
AGAIN...JMHO...

Own 3 RUGER semi-autos

Maybe I got lucky....but between those three guns own alot of Factory mags...none fail.....

Good to know I should be fine, but I'll try to rotate my defense mag with my range mag every so often.

Jnewell, sorry for not checking but I've spent most of my reading here and at .net in the care and maintenance section learning oils and cleaning.
