Sorry if this has been asked before but I did a quick search and didn't see it so here goes. I may be showing my ignorance here but with the SR9 17 round mags why can I get 17 rounds of Hornady hollow points in one with no problem but I can't get but 16 rounds of Remington solid points in the same mag.? It makes no real differance but I'm just curiouse if I'm missing something, doing something wrong or just plain nuts. Anyone know anything about this? :?:

That means you have to shoot it more to break in the springs. LOL I have always been told to keep a mag loaded with ammo for a couple of days followed by one of rest and repeat. It sure helped mine out.

As for the brand of rounds, it's your SR9's way off saying not to shoot those crappy rounds in it. LOL I love Remington guns, but their ammo is crap, more the most part. WWB is/should be the same price and SR9s eat them up with no problems. All I can think of is that it's good karma in disguise.

I assume you're using the mag loader that came with the gun? I have a real hard time loading the last few into mine without it (and I'm man enough to admit it with no embarrasment). Seems weird to me that you can't load hollow points - it's the case that has to fit, not the bullet. Took me a while to realize how hard I have to push that loader down with no fear of breaking something. Keep trying, and maybe it'll get looser.

my gun vet brother tells me that you can keep a mag spring compressed for 100 years and it will still pring back the same. its the 'cycling' of the spring up and down that causes it to loosen.

The 100 yr thing is streaching it but i've always heard about the same thing

As far as the question asked i have no idea why the two different types/brands of ammo would take up different space in a mag :?:
I do know i used a lot of 4 letter words while loading my new mags
They DO get easier to load with use tho----------- SHOOT MORE :D

Just to let everyone know I was using the mag loader that came with the gun. The mags in question though were new. I was being lazy when I went out to shoot and decided to just take out my everyday carry mags, which I keep loaded with Hornady critical defense loads, and grab a couple new ones off my shelf. (I keep a few extra mags around.) I loaded them with Remington solid point target loads. I wondered if it were because the hollow point tip is not as big around as the solid points. It very well could be that the two new mags haven't been broken in good yet though. I also haven't tried to unload one of my everyday mags and see how may of the solid points I could get in one of them. I'll try that and let everyone know what happens. If the everyday mags hold 17 solid points with no problem then I figure it is just because the other two mags are new.

Dog gone, I never new that a magazine being new made that much differance. I tried loading the solid points into an older mag and it held 17 just like it was supposed to do. I guess the moral to this story is get out and shoot more when you buy new mags. Thanks for the info I was wondering if there were something wrong with the two new mags and find out they are just to new. whodathunkit?

That is part of the reason why when at the range I generally just load 10. And it is easier to count when it comes in those nice little trays.

aaron,
i do exactly he same.

And I do exactly the same as well. At the range no matter the gun or magazine capacity, I load 10. Not sure if it helps with the "abuse" or loading and emptying, but it can't hurt. Please it is easier to shoot 10, 10, 10, because that way a box is emptied equally, and if I don't have time to shoot a full box, I still have an even number left.

Just out of curiosity, why do you go to the range if you can't shoot a box of ammo? Just doesn't make sense to me.

It's not normallY I cannot shoot a full box. It's that I am in the middle of box number 3 and it gets crowded, or I get a phone call and feel like leaving. If I am shooting multiples of 10 I always have an even number of ammo no matter when I leave.
Not a big deal at all, just a habit I have. Plus I use "practice mags", which are my 10 rounders, so my 15 rounders are not constantly being loaded and unloaded. The 15 rounders stay stocked with premium HP's.

Which mag below does yours look like. They should have the "U" shaped magazine catch (top). But they might have the rectangular catch instead if was a gun from older stock (bottom)(doubtful).

The Rectangular shaped catches had a tendency to make loading FMJ rounds a real pain. Could shave the noses of the rounds and make loading past 4 or 5 rounds very difficult to get 17. Either way, try pushing the nose of the round first, then the case end with the loader second, this helps load the rectangular mags and even the newer U shaped ones.

Might try breaking them down and making sure there's nothing obstructing them, but since you can load 17 JHP rounds, it shouldn't be the issue.

OK! That makes sense. LOL I thought you were only shooting half a box, not 2 and half. haha

All of the mags that I have look like the one on the bottom. I figure that they were just to new and have not been used enough.
