Macy's Parade

Well, Got reminded why I haven't wasted time watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for a good many years. :roll: :roll: Most of the time was spent looking either at balloons or TV Commentators, bands got very brief exposure, other parade participants were almost completely ignored.
Sorry but I think the ROSE Parade is a much better parade (Yeah, I HAVE set on the curb over night to have a good spot the next morning) Matter of fact; I have marched in much better parades while in a High School band, even got to march in the Orange Bowl Parade my senior year.

Other thing I noticed was the inability to focus on much of ANYTHING except the supposed singers, camera was always jumping around here and there, never staying in one spot long enough for you to actually focus on whatever they were showing momentarily, Never giving a good side view of the floats and as I said , ground marching characters between floats were essentially completely ignored.

Others here may disagree, but I had to voice my opinion.

I am in agreement with you CG. Too much face time for the loser commentators and very little camera time for all of the talented band members, singers, dancers etc.

Well CG . . . I find it very hard to disagree . . . at all.

It seems a real example of how the broadcast people have gone to what
THEY find entertaining, with very little or no consideration for the viewing
public.

I saw about the last five minutes of it (because that's what was on the TV
as I got to my daughter's) and commented much the same things you
mentioned. All of which was agreed upon by everyone else there.

I think it is time to start lobbying the FCC for a return to original standards
for maintaining a broadcast license.

Mainly the coverage seems to be ads disguised as parade coverage.

Happened to see a part of the parade in St. Louis. A group of girls were marching and they couldn't stay in time until...they all stopped and started doing some kind of move including pelvic thrusts. Then they started marching again all out of sync.
Inappropriate imo.

I heard that the wind chill factor there was like 9 degrees. Sounds like no one was having any fun and in that kind of cold you don't want to stand still and freeze. Got to keep moving.

IMHO the Macy's parade has turned into an advertising gimmick for 3rd rate Broadway shows to boost ticket sales for the holiday season.

I'm somewhat offended by the inclusion of US Marines. Both my sister's husband and my nephew, my brother's oldest son, were Marines. Brother-in-law a veteran of Bouganville and Iwo Jima, nephew was at Khe Sanh. And both now long since dead.

I don't want to make a big fuss over the post, just not a true statement of US Marines.

Bob, you obviously missed my "JK GUNNY" at the end. Two of my best friends were former Marines. I used that line on them numerous times. THEY understood a joke; obviously you don't.

Well, when I was younger and sitting on the same curbs as Colonialgirl, the why was booze, grass and a warm girl. Got so cold they just naturally wanted cuddle up.

I did break three ribs one year, but that's another story.

I agree totally. We watched some of it hoping to see my wife's niece's daughter who was in the American dance group. We saw her briefly for a second or two. We were able to pick her out because of her beautiful red hair.
