To my knowledge there werent any made in 222 Rem

Hey Heavy Barrel...I have your gun noted in the reference of Ruger Firearms as "probably having a LC trigger". Can you verify?

What loads shoot best in your 222? My Carpenter gun likes 40gr ballistic tip Noslers, my Hawkeye seems to favor 50gr Sierra ballistic tips. Best powder I have found is RL-7

It's my understanding that only a small quantity existed in the states.Mine came from Little Crow Sports in Hutchison,MN,he may have been the only one that had them,I think Chet (Chet 15) above has the information.I have had more than one offer from forum members over the last few years wanting the one I have at more than double what i paid for it but just can't see fit to let it go.

jim at little crow had the lions share of them. another dealer had first shot at them and he took 6. jim took the rest, 44 of them. later on, he did get a few more, 4 to 6 maybe. i took 3 but like a dumby sold 1 and traded the other 2. still kicking myself in the back side for that. there is one on G.B. now. starting bid is $899. on G.A. there is one of the "carpenter" rifles.

I was able to get both mine for a resonable price. I got my Carpenter gun NIB from Whittakers for $525. The
Hawkeye was a buy it now on GB for $500. I saw one like Heavy Barrels sell on GB for $800.

The Carpenter on GB did not last long! Someone got a really nice rifle for a decent price.

I have a .222 M77 MkII in Synthetic Stainless (with the unfortunate but aptly named boat paddle)
I use it mostly for foxes, roo's, goats. Love it, it shoots flat and amazingly tight groups.
I fitted an adjustable Timney Trigger from new (http://www.timneytriggers.com/shop/timney-ruger-m77-mkii-replacement-trigger.aspx )
and then cleaned up the sear etc...
Its has a TASCO world class adjustable scope, so nothin fancy, but its does the job!
Longest shot was a 35kg billy goat (shoulder) at 260m. I only took the shot because some-else gut shot it and couldnt bring it down. I dont like wounding animals. Normally only take head shots, and never more than 230m. Buy a cheap e8ay range finder and make them all count I say! :wink:
I was using AR2207 20.2gns 50 gn Hornady (or sierra) Spitzers in .224. (Ive only ever shot competition on a range once and won the day with this setup. range was 400m. The Pattern centre bull was 8x4" with only the first shot outside the bull, total of 40 shots over 2 hours.
But those projectiles are getting hard to find now, so Ive just got online to start researching new loads for the Nossler BallasticTip Varmint Spitzers in 50gn.
