M1 Garand at 1200 frames per second

Very cool hpman. I think the 20% faster over the M16 is a bit overstated. Not a bid deal though. Good stuff.

They claimed 25%.. faster... not sure and beyond my limited abilities to figure out... . but one thing is for sure there is more than a 25% difference between a 30-06 round and the small .223.

Well that's cool. I have a couple of guns I would like to see super-slow motion of their opperation. :D

I'd like to see that in comparison between the AR and the M14. The AR and Garand are nice but I'm an M14 fanboy.

It beat turning a bolt in any caliber until you had a stuck casing. This happened quite often with the M1 and M14 and the Army's remedy was to place the butt stock on the ground and kick the operating handle. Good idea to remove the mag from the M14 prior to taking that action, but the M1 you could not remove any rounds left.

I understand the M16 suffered similar problems but I never was issued one so I have no experience with it.

You & 737 piqued my curiosity so I thought I'd give it a try. I timed the 1200 frame per sec. and the Garand cycles in 4 seconds & the AR in 5 sec. That's 25% difference. I was surprised to learn the AR was slower, though I'm sure I wouldn't be able to notice the difference.
Still an interesting video. Thanks hpman66.

I'm really impressed by the rigidity of the Garand's receiver given the energy of the cartridge. And wow you can really see why you have to have the case deflector on the AR particularly if you're a left handed shooter with a right handed gun: they come back at you until they hit the deflector.

Kinda makes ya wonder about the newer clones that have dispensed with the deflector, doesn't it?!

I can remember one of the instructor NCO's at the rifle range on Fort Ord firing the M-14 so fast that we thought he had changed it to an automatic. BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG !!
Loved those M-14's; I'll trade two Brit 303 Enfields and a MAS 1936 for a good Surplus M-14.

Thanks 66, I'm a M1A man myself ,I have an M1A " Loaded" and seeing that just makes my favorite rifle that much cooler .
I have a S&W M$P 15-T that I love too but nothing ,I mean nothing compares to my M1A for accuracy and hard hitting .
