Makes my back hurt. ;)
That's getting it done in a hurry. I'd love to get going on those windrows just to see how fast I could roll hay. My Cousin says he's hit 20 bales per hour but I'm happy with 10. :love:
That's one job I never did enjoy. I'm kind of curious, I live in central Iowa and you see more and more fields of hay mostly put up in large round bales, but there isn't sufficient livestock around to utilize all of it. There must be a market for good hay elsewhere.
Here in Middle Tennessee it has been a record summer for good hay. I have some of the best bermuda bales in the barn, along with wonderful fescue, etc. While I painfully remember the days of manually handling each bale, I love watching these videos of large scale production and the equipment that makes it so much easier.

I made my summer time money as a teenager hauling hay at 2 cents a bale. When I saw round bales several years ago I thought about the teens like me not having a summer job. I then had another thought that few teens now would want to spend twelve hours loading and stacking hay bales.
And the loss of that basic work ethic is just one of the reasons that we are in the shape that we're in today.

Late 1950's to early 1960's I worked for the biggest dairy farmer in Ohio. 6 of us would load 10 wagons about 120 bale/wagon in the afternoon next morning we unloaded the wagons then back to hay field to start all over. Barn was around 350 yards long so John Kellner had an elevator in the top of the barn that would carry the bales from one end on the barn to the other. When the barn was built it was the biggest barn in Ohio. When I started working for him I got $0.50/hour, when I stopped working for him I was getting $1.00/hour. At the time he was milking 100 holstein cows and 50 jersey cows for cream content.
