Loading 223 on a progressive press

Anybody here load 223 on their progressive? I am having trouble finding a powder that will meter well through my Dillon 550's powder measure.

What are you using for powder? I load with 2230C and it meters very well through my 650 measure, but any ball powder in the correct burning range will work well.

Also, is your charge bar making the full travel?

H335 runs like water through my powder measure. AA2230 also. Oddly enough, both powders' sweet spot loads are with the same measure setting. FYI, this is not a loading suggestion.

IMR 3031, RL 15 are what I have been using. Cannot locate any H335 or 2320. Still looking though. Yesterday I was using Varget and charges thrown varied as much as .8 grain. Do you use the large capacity bar in your measure or the small?

I run a modified LEE turret set up to run similar to a progressive using prepped cases(sized, trimmed, swaged, and primed). The LEE measure is manual operated and I'm getting less than .1 grain variance.

Like I said, H335(actually WCC 844-military pulldown) , Ramshot Exterminator, and AA2230. All these powders are very small grained ball powder and if anything flow a little TOO WELL. They are so fine that they sneak past the wiper on the measures just a little. I no longer consider using stick powder in the 223(it would have to be a last resort). Since I just laid in 16# of H335, I don't see a shortage soon.

I run VV N133 & N135 as well as H335 without a hiccup through my LnL and the weights are spot-on. I've also reloaded 308 using H4895 but the weights would sometimes vary but not more than 0.15 grains.

Try CFE 223 if you can get your hands on it.

Been using WC-844 and BLC-2 for years. My 550 is set up for .223. Good Luck! bhk

Found 3# of H335. Will give that a whirl. Powder is scarce around here.

Long ago I loaded stick powders in 223 & 22-250 on a very early 450/550 convert with much labor and a rather joyless amount of time & effort.....however they shot pretty good.

Now I'd have to find easier flowing powders for sure.
