Needing to get a live animal trap and wanting to know a good brand to get. Have had cheap ones and raccoons had it pretty well tore up after catching 10 or 12 raccoons. Strictly used for racoons.

Any racoon I get my paws on goes straight into my stewpot (after shinning, field dressing & de-boning, of course) - dark/sweet meat, IMO better than beef in a stew.

I use a LOT of live traps in my business.
The Haveahart traps are good,, but I only recommend a (1) door set-up. If you get the 2 door, pass through design, I'd take & permanently lock the secondary door with the fold down tab.

I personally buy a lot of the cheaper cages from Tractor Supply. BUT,,,,,,,,,,,, PAY ATTENTION,, I modify my traps to prevent coon damage. It's simple & cheap. And since I user mine to catch a LOT of animals,, they have to last.
The biggest thing I can offer is to buy a bag of cage clips (used to build cages,) and the pliers to use them. Then, look at the wire of the cage. They fold a piece & clamp/clip it together. Then they clip a piece on the ends for the back. I add cage clamps to all 4 corners of the backs to where a coon can't get a toe into a gap & pull. And,, all along the edge where the piece meets itself,, I add several more clips. ESPECIALLY near the corners of the door. The hand shields get pulled & bent,, but rarely torn off. I gave up trying to keep them in place. I just make sure it's still there,, and use gloves when I pick up a cage. the shield may be floppy,, but it does prevent direct access to my hand.

While many trappers buy Tomahawk cages,, I PERSONALLY do not like the drop type door they use,, Nor the open wire door. I like the solid metal door that allows an animal a 'corner" to hide in,, AND allows me an end to work with.
Plus,, a flat metal trip pan vs a wire one is preferred. Havahart & the cheaper ones from TS have solid doors & flat metal trip pans.

I've been using these cheaper cages for over 15 years now. I have had only (1) that finally got damaged beyond my use. And I've kept it for parts.

I also tune the trip levers in my cages.

Take it from someone who worked Animal Control for 22+ years, Tru-catch 30D. Heavily made and what's really nice is the way the door mechanism works if you get a skunk in one and don't want to deal with it just get a long pole and turn the trap over and the door will fall open so the skunk can walk out.

Those are made in USA too.

I have a small Hav-A-Heart for chipmunks and caught a squirrel in it a couple years ago. I didn't know they could growl. He was not happy in there. I let him out and he ran up the nearest tree and barked like crazy at me.

You are wasting your time ..I played nice ..quit my bird feeders, squirrel feeders etc etc ..they still dig up potted plants..destroy the garden in total ..crap all over everything ...FEDERAL law says you have the right to protect your property from wildlife and NO state law can undo the federal rights granted
do this

Just be sure to tag/ID each trap per your states requirements

then do this

the above absolutely turns a 22 rifle into a silenced and deadly tool
