Lipsey's run vs. Regular production

Is there a way to tell if a Flattop 44spl was a Lipsey's gun or a regular Ruger run?

And a grip question.

I bought a 44 FTBH in about 2012 that was stolen. I am almost positive the emblem on the grips was just black. I bought another one this weekend that has a plated emblem.
Am I loosing it?

I bought this .44 special Flat top new 4 or 5 years ago. I just assumed it`s a Lipsey special. Maybe it`s not?? Whats the differences anyway?

Lipsey's bought 1500? Ruger made more and they're still making them ( in production cycles of course.

All 44 Flat Tops I've seen have black eagles. Did you buy the one with plated emblems new?
If I understand correctly, the only way it could have plated emblems in the grips is if someone changed them or changed the grip frame and grips. Because grips with the plated emblems are the slightly larger size that come on the alum alloy grip frames of the single six and the standard Blackhawks.

To check:
The correct FT grip frame is steel and only 7/16" wide. The other grip frames will not stick to a magnet and are 1/2" wide.

Let me clarify my post above regarding the grips. The .45 Colt Vaquero shown came with stag grips, and I bought it used. I ordered replacement grips and the black eagle plastic grips were received. These Ruger factory grips. (Naturally, I kept the stags)

I then bought the .44 Special Flat Top, which came from my gun shop with the nickeled Phoenix (O.K. Eagle.) in the grips.

But the thing about it is that both grips are Ruger original grips, but from different times.


The way I look at it, these grips cost me about $15:

I bought the one I have now used, but it was as new. I saw two more brand new ones and a FT 41 mag and they all had the plated bird.

Yeah the bird is black but the area around it is plated. What I meant was the first one I bought I don't think was

I will reiterate what I posted in my first post above: The very early Flat Tops apparently had the Ruger eagle emblem formed into the plastic grip panels. The gun I bought later has the Ruger emblem as an added plated emblem. Don't know when the change occurred.
