Anyone ever see the stainless 5.5" 45 Colt/45ACP for sale anymore?
Saw a used blued one locally for $600 but I was trying to find a stainless.

Looks like Buds Guns has the 4.62" blued in stock for around $551 but the stainless is out of stock.

I haven't seen these for sale for a while. I got mine while the getting was good. Both cylinder throats were undersize and that caused leading when using the .45 Colt cylinder (lost accuracy in just a few shots) and I couldn't even chamber my .45 ACP reloads. However, after I reamed both cylinder's throats with a Manson "made for the task" reamer kit complete with pilots, that revolver shoots like a "house afire". Using proper loads in either cylinder, I get groups well under 1" at 25 yards off a rest. One of the most versatile and useful revolvers of all time.

Mine is a Bisley SS Ruger with 5.5" barrel (large frame).

On the other hand, if you are talking about the Ruger Flattop convertible, I do not have one of those. However, one of those would seem VERY desirable to me, too. I have a couple of the Flattop .44 Specials, but no .45 Convertible flattop...

Hey Dale, what size did you ream your throats out to? I have a half dozen 45 Rugers that may need to be done.
Thanks, and sorry for hijacking this thread!

Speaking for me... All of mine are reamed to .4525 (both .45 ACP and .45 Colt). Helps to have consistent correct cylinder throats if looking for ultimate accuracy and minimum leading.

I got my two flattop .45s when they first came out. I'd been burned before on 'vacillating' -- should I, shouldn't I.... Glad I got 'em as 'for me' they are the perfect .45 Colt revolver. Not so much interested in the .45 ACP as I thought I might be at the time. So the .45 ACP cylinders are rarely used.

Hope you run onto one.

Rclark, thank you for your answer, I had thought .4525 was about right. Nice pair you have there! I know what you mean about hesitating...I did that with the Ruger Blackhawk 8-shot .327s a few years ago, could have bought one for $450, hesitated, then they were gone, and I ended up having to hunt hard for one and pay $625! Now, I just buy and if I find I don't need it (that hasn't happened yet) I can always sell it off.

I stumbled onto one of the Lipsey flattops being offered for sale on Gunbroker about 3 weeks ago. It is new and sports the white simulated ivory grips. Have had it out to the range several times and absolutely love it. Wasn't sure I'd care for those grips as I actually prefer the black checkered plastic ones that come on other Ruger SA models, but I think I'm going to leave them on. They are super comfortable and provide a secure grip, and they look kind of cool when the gun is in a dark brown leather holster. Since I don't reload, I will shoot more factory ACP rounds through this gun vs a whole lot of 45 Colt ammo---although both shoot extremely well. At 25 yards, the revolver shoots to same point of aim whether I'm shooting 45 ACP 230 gr FMJ/JHP rounds or 45 Colt 225 gr JHP defensive ammo. Shooting 45 ACP hardball through it is like shooting standard velocity 38 spl in a GP100.

Sweet. I've never had a stainless weapon. Maybe the next one, the 44 special is next on the list. My 45 convertible is blued.

I have one of those also. They are nice guns. I've had some work done to mine. Cylinder bored by Cylindersmith. Trigger job by Clark Custom Guns. Swapped out the white plastic grips for wooden grips from Ruger.

Here's a quick link to the KNVB44X (4-5/8" version)

Just cuz I want to see what happens.

Ruger still lists these available as a distributor exclusive, but in searching a lot of places, I cannot find one available. Even the places that had them for $675+ are sold out. Lipsey's also says they're not available. Was this a one time item? Seems to have been a popular seller. Maybe the buy now at $695 could avoid some heartburn for somebody. MSRP is a whopping $795.

Ironically, I've owned two of these. Sold one of them for way less than the buy me now price.

WAYNO.

I agree - the buy it now is probably the way to go in that auction. I paid $690 + tax for mine and drove 8 hours round trip to pick it up.

These don't seem to be one time items. I have both barrel length flattops, one was made in 2009 (520 prefix) and the other 2014 (521 prefix).

Maybe instead of one-time items, I could have said occasional-limited runs. Like the KNR4. (stainless 4-5/8" Single Six convertible). Never catalogued, but always on the distributor exclusive list, and always back ordered until the next batch is produced.

I have learned if there's any distributor exclusive that interests me, I've got to acquire it immediately, as once the batch is sold out, there's no telling when they'll be available again. Another example...The 3-3/4" Super Blackhawks. The market was instantly flooded with them, until the day I was in the market for one. Then there were none available. When I finally found a source, I had to buy three just to get one.

WAYNO.

Well that did not take long. Got home from work, logged in and checked this thread, jumped over to GB and that baby has sold!
The blued version on Buds is looking better now.

Update - after typing this, I went over to Buds and now their blued version is "out of stock". Back to the drawing board. :(

Agree. This is the time that one of you are supposed to tell me that the fun is in the search!

Got my Bisley .45 convertible ( S.S. , 5 1/2 ) on the classifieds from one of the members ( believe he's a dealer ). It was NIB , measured perfect . BC gap was a little big at .008 , but both cylinders were perfect. Been too long now , don't remember what they were ...just that I was pleased with it. Shoots well , very little leading. I use Oregon Trail 255 gr SWC exclusively. Believe it was a Williams gun.

regards , brushunter

Not the Lipsey's model; but I did get an email from Bud's that the 5.5" blued 45 convertible is back in stock. Just wanted to share in case anyone is looking.
