Hi,

What is it about the smell of burning nitrogen? Nitromethane, nitrocellulose, nytroglycerin: they all seem to produce a similar high. Especially when accompanied by a little "recoil" thru the hands, shoulders, feet or seat!

Yea, like I need more loud noise. Heck, just the stuff we ran in the late 60's on local strips was bad enough. That, guns and jets, with an occasional explosion and toss in some industrial noise and when it's quiet I can't hear myself think for the ringing.

Drags are the only racing I enjoy. Live is by far the best, but I'll also watch it on TV.
I miss the 1/4 mile, though. It is certainly safer for the drivers and cars at 1,000 feet, but I do miss the 1/4.

They have an extra 320' to slow down now and the speeds are almost as high as they were in the quarter mile days. Of course,the e.t.'s are much lower.

Ennis, right. Myself and three buddies went to the opening finals on that Sunday. None of us thought to take any ear protection man it was load. I believe it was called something else at that time. The nascar track bought the name I believe.

Who else here remembers the Dallas International Motor Speedway in Lewisville. Another NHRA dragstrip with an attaching road course. Also the site of the Texas International Pop Festival.

That brought safety changes to FC and after Scott Kalitta's death there were more changes to cars and tracks as well as the change to 1000' from the 1/4 mile for TF and FC.

I was there the day before with a friend who could not go Sunday.
